Sounds like the writers of "Ridin' High" should sue them for stealing their bass line.

Why would Prince knowingly steal someone else's song? It doesn't make sense confused

Exactly

The song is the same and P isn't stupid...give the brotha a break. I am sure he used it since Girl 6 is about "Phone sex"....put the 2 together.....

The GOMAB track, "Phone Sex", sounds like "Girl 6" & "Gett Off" by Prince, and Faze O's "Riding High".

What a mess for them.

That's definitely Faze O's "Riding High". Did they have permission to use it? A definite fact that will matter in this case!

I kept swearing I heard "Gett Off" similarities but I didn't want to mention that because you know how folks can get around here but since you brought it up...umm...yeah I hear "Gett Off" similarities too! hmmm

I hear "Girl 6"similarities all up and through it. If nothing else this is going to be fun to watch! shrug

nod For sure. And, at this point it seems that GOMAB pieced their song together, but I can't see when "Phone Sex" was written/recorded. Time will tell. smile

eek Wow.
Did "Phone Sex" come out first or did "Girl 6"?

and...Didn't P have some kind of beef with Spike Lee before?

Spike had an issue with Prince in the 80's and sent him a letter. Prince responded and they have been cool for years. I have photo's of the at basketball games a bunch of times and Spike gives a big thanks to "his friend" for doing the soundtrack.

The issue Spike had was P was he always used white women in is movies and videos and in UTCM the crazy bad lady Prince ran from was Black....what's up wit dat? Like I said they worked it out. Spike said he was cool with what Prince had to say about the situation.

They should see it as a privalige to be associated with an artist like Prince,

I think sometimes people can be so greedy.

He helped promote most of there careers. How much do they owe Prince?

Exactly - would we have ever heard of them if not for Prince? Not saying they're not talented, but we all know the truth.

Girl 6.
Type of Work: Music
Registration Number / Date: PA0000813180 / 1996-07-29
Title: Girl 6.
Appears in: Girl 6, music from the motion picture. Warner Brothers 9 46239-2, c1996. Compact disc
Publisher Number: Warner Brothers 9 46239-2
Performer: Performed by the New Power Generation.
Copyright Claimant: NPG Publishing
Date of Creation: 1996

Authorship on Application: words & music: the Artist Formerly Known As Prince, Tommy Elm (a.k.a. Tommy Barbarella)

So my question is, since Prince wasn't Prince at the time and TAFKAP no longer exists...can Prince even be sued for what TAFKAP did?

That Prince! He's a tricky one!! falloff

Sure, he can. He OWNS the right to "prince" and I'm sure all of the checks were still signed as "Prince".

You mean Laid Back´s "White Horse", right ? I had never heard that song before until two years ago ( I searched for it on youtube because folks kept mentioning the similarities between the two) and when I heard it, I coukd understand what they meant but I´m still not convinced that Prince was influenced by them. Sure, their song came out much earlier ON RECORD but maybe they had heard an early acetate of Erotic City somewhere. I remember reading something about a Prince maxisingle with a Laid Back song as the b-side because they were cool with each other at some point in their careers, so maybe they were in touch and that´s where they picked up the idea from him. Then again, maybe Erotic City was indeed inpired by White Horse...who knows ? But it doesn´t sound very realistic, it was a huge club hit back then and he would´ve gotten sued big time by them if it were a plagiarization of their song. Why would he borrow so obviously ?

Yes, Sandra St. Victor had a fall out with Prince. Thing is , she IS credited in the booklet, and Prince has mentioned her quite a few times in interviews and made it clear that SHE wrote the lyrics to Soul Sanctuary when Spike Lee mentioned that beautiful song in that interview in INTERVIEW magazine in 96.

That's proabably why Prince lived in the studio producing tracks by himself most of the time..

I hope that the Bitter Orgers will post the results of this case if it ends in Prince's favor (..like the other ones were.. lol lol lol ).

I try to help these people save their sites by not promoting bitterness..

This negative mentality towards Prince will lead to a bad mistake for them, but anyone who doesn't agree with them is a target... So, we will see what happens.

I'm not saying that P didn't write any songs for other people. What I'm saying is that sometimes when they would b in rehearsal, people like Sheila, Morris, etc. would be playing riffs, melodies, chord progressions, etc. and P would come in and turn it into a song and they didn't receive writing credit. Read your Crystal Ball booklet about Sexual Suicide.

Who knows what happened; I don't think anyone should assume anyting at this point, eventhough there are allegations, there's always two sides (sometimes more) to a story.

I'm sure Prince and Spike will handle it. wink

Now, they can make Prince ease the threats because he is named in a lawsuit..

Wrong..

Still, the photos and the music that they want are still his, and have nothing to do with this situation.

Putting Prince's name, or any name in a lawsuit means nothing.. Most of those spouting venom because Prince will not allow them to have their way, would actually be in jail by now if this were the case.

Keep spending everyday of your precious lives trying to find any dirt on the internet about this man..

You can prove to him that the photos and some boots, boot dicussions, or illegal and un-authorized materials mean nothing to you.

Close, or end all of your Prince fansites! It will never, ever happen. All talk, bravado, ego, and bitterness over something that really doesn't belong to you.

Prince's fanbase has provided a little community for those to network, meet people, and some to generate $$$$ (and they know it). I just don't trust those who scream the loudest over U.S. and Internationl Copyright Laws regrading Prince's photos and music. I believe that some are stirring the bitterness here because they can no longer have their way on the internet, and it's sad.

I doubt that Prince would be the only hypocrite..Not by a long shot.

"This is what it sounds like...When "Booters" Cry."
[Edited 1/8/08 6:43am]

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the major crux of the argument over prince and copyright is he is claiming that photos taken by people belong to him

Wrong

They don't

So maybe in the paralel universe you live in he gets away with it, in this one he won't

You can't claim intellectual property rights over things that don;t belong to ou

His music is his music, photos and images he has commissioned are his

Photos taken by fans are theirs

As is their right to comment on prince under the human right to free speech

Check your legal facts
