I love this song. At first I didn't understand it, but now I understand the emotion behind it, or the feeling of not having that love reciprocated. At one time it can be painful, yet at the same time it can be beautiful!

good to see you back golden thumbs up!
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

If I could only pick 1 song to be my favorite this would be it! I'd just hit puberty when I heard this for the first time, and this song struck me like no other song had before. A truly great song from beginning to end..... biggrin

Good song, but it doesn't beat "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore."

Screaming, or what not, can't compare to the soulful emotion on "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore." White people love them some "Beautiful Ones" though.

I'd probably take "The Dance" over it too, since you mentioned it.

Guess it depends on who you're around.....I'm not White and Love it, as do many other non Whites that I know. Now, I like/love his other ballads, but this is the one for me.....

Don't you agree that this is the most emotional Prince song ever recorded?
Especially the extended version is my absolute # 1 Prince song.
I believe no other artist has gone that far concerning screaming at the top of his lungs. If you know a song by another artist that proves the opposite, I'd be glad to view your youtube vids.
Thanx,
C.

I agree. That is actually my favorite Prince song. I even get mesmorized whenever I watch him singing to Appolonia in 'Purple Rain'. Very emotional performance.

Great slow song, but the screaming in "Darling Nikki" is just as powerful, methinks.

I'm not crazy about this song...never have been. I'm not saying that I don't like it, but I prefer songs like "International Lover", "Do Me, Baby", "Adore", "I Hate U" , etc. These songs kick "The Beautiful Ones" ass all over.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Yes, Very emotional. It was Prince getting very personal. It's right up there with Adore.

I was watching this in my home office one night and my 9 year old walks in. She was mesmerized to say the least...She really loves the "I know what I want" chest exposing flash. I was worried for a second...
