LoveSexy LP Question

So I got a gift certificate for Itunes for x-mas and I am surfing the net and noticed that LoveSexy is now available via Itunes but only as a single track and that got me to wondering...

Is the LP version of Lovesexy tracked or not?

I've heard it's not. And that's the reason I won't buy it.

The Lp has lines between the tracks where you can drop the needle.

Supposedly the promo cd is tracked.

Yes, it does. But when I was ripping the vinyl to iTunes, I found it very difficult to do it as individual tracks in a couple of places. There is really no break to speak of between Eye No/Alphabet Street, and Lovesexy/When 2 R In Love. Because the ripping device and software I was using at the time didn't allow me to separate tracks easily (or move the start/end points of songs), I just ripped those four songs as two tracks.

One of these days, I may go back and do them again, but it's not a priority.

the lp is not tracked, but it is easy to find the tracks, if you know how threads work on vinyl, the cd was the one he did that on purpose with, but no one knows why wink

My U.S. vinyl copy is "tracked" to the extent that you can look at the record and see a "gap" where each song begins, as is the case with most vinyl albums. However, instead of listing each song's length, the label gives only the playing time for the entire side and proves the same "warning" you'll find on non-tracked Lovesexy CD's: "Songs are in a continuous sequence."
Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position.

There is a tracked version of the cd that is out there. If you look in used cd stores, just make sure it DOES NOT say "songs are in continuous sequence". That is usually the clue.

Also, some download stores (not iTunes) have LoveSexy as a single track for 99 cents. http://www.jamn945.com/ has a download store that has it for 99cents.

^The UK tracked versions of Lovesexy also have the 'songs are in a continuous sequence' information on them. All 'current' UK copies are tracked so it isn't really that hard to find a copy. smile

Yes, the US promo CD of Lovesexy is tracked. The individual tracks have fades on either end so that they don't start/stop abruptly if you're playing just one. This works o.k. for individual tracks, but throws off the whole "continual flow" of the album as a single work a bit.

Does the tracked Euro version have fades between tracks, or is the original album simply split up?

nod

The best way to tell is in the catalogue number printed on the top left corner of the back of the European CD case. If it's in the original Lovesexy font, then it's the old one-track version. The later, tracked version has the catalogue number in plain font. But as most have already said; buy a new European version now and it WILL be tracked!

Euro version flows exactly how the album should.

1. eye No, obviously begins at the beginning.
2. Alphabet St begins with Prince's final shout of 'Know!' as the song kicks in.
3. Glam Slam begins at it's obvious beginning.
4. Anna Stesia begins with the first strike of the piano.
5. Dance On, again, begins in the obvious place.
6. Lovesexy begins once Dance On has totally faded.
7. When 2 R In Love begins with that brief kissy-kissy sound drum machine moment just before the 'Sweet Dreams' slowed-down vocal.
8. eye Wish U Heaven begins with it's fade in.
9. Positivity begins the moment eye Wish U Heaven ends and that kind of 'wind-like' sound begins, the 'yes, yes yes' bit starting about 5 seconds in.

Hope that's helpful.
