Prince's 1995 American Music Awards Performance.

That shit was tight.

I admit it--I don't like lip synching, but Prince did it with so much finesse and class. I remember my roomate, who was NOT a Prince fan at that time, tripping out at the fact that when Prince appeared during the performance he did so in an unexpected spot where his NPG dancers were located--everyone was fooled by the decoy.

Then my roomate laughed his ass off and tripped out over the fact that Prince was chewing gum during the performance, so confident was he in his "Gold Experience" set-list's strength.

When the old stuff melts away, Prince appears from laying down into a split that makes his stand up, to the beat of Billy Jack Bitch, which he performs very funky-like. It was sexy, it was fierce, and it was undboutly a Prince performance. Man, what Britney Spears could have learned by studying that performance. sigh

Fantastic performance! What about at the end when he read a long list of all the people he'd worked with in the past, and acknowledged their contribution to him being where he was? I thought that was great biggrin

The chewing gum thing was hilarious, like a FU for making me lip synch, at the very end after the performance is over, he looks at Mayte for approval wink

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

I found the stuff leading up to his appearance a little bit underwhelming. But when he takes stage, it's fierce.

It would have been nice to add an extra minute of that and take away a minute of the stuff leading up to his appearance.

I still have it on tape. When he sat up from the floor...WOW! I didn't like the part with Tommy B. Hanging from the ceiling and Prince dancing underneath him...but the performance was off the chain. I wish I could get it on DVD..."All of ya'll trippin' over the NPG finances...I like to ask you all to just chill...it's all good."

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
