POINTLESS SPECULATION ok, I know this is a pointless excercise in speculation, but that's just how I roll.
Why doesn't Prince answer questions directly? He always , like a politician, answers the question he wishes he was asked rather than the one he really was asked. It just seems kind of tried, tested, and burned out. Is it a self-esteem thing? Is it just that he's still THAT interested in building a mystery for himself?

i think it started out as a persona thing - something to set him apart and to get people's attention - but i also think that over the years, he's learned to use the "riddle-as-answer" technique as a form of spin/damage control, especially considering it's more righteous to offer some crackhead dr. seuss haiku nonsense than to tell outright lies when asked an uncomfortable question.

[Edited 12/26/07 19:59pm] This isn't the book of genesis, and we're all grown ups here--not mad hatter southern baptists. You don't have to apply everything word for word. The generalization stands.

i think he likes to keep us pondering ... he likes the mysteria around him... keeps fans trying to decipher the cryptic messages ...some stuff i dont try to figure out .. when he did this interview with Tavis Smiley, a girl called in and asked him.. where he would be New Year's Eve.. she asked if he would be performing and would it be televised.. know what he said? .. Prince: 'Yes, if the sky has blood in it... red and blue make purple' .. uhm .. yeah .. riiight lol.. im not even gonna try to figure that out... maybe he let's Camille out every so often

Well I think it's pretty nice of him when asked about Beyonce to say,"She definitely has a relationship with music," instead of,"That big thighed sinful ho harlot has yodeled her way to the top and is the face of the dark ages of black music."

I think princeĀ“s interviews are hilarious, i have often laughed myself stupid at some of the replies he gives. I think alot of it has to do with people not taking him serious, so he simply takes the piss when in an interview situation. The Sky news broadcast of his last show at the O2, is typical of Prince If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

He didn't say that in answer to the woman's question, he said "I hope to be in the light", and looked directly into the camera, meaning, I think, that he hoped to be doing something but didn't want to discuss it yet. He said the 'purple sky' thing in answer to something TS asked him, and he was smirking when he said it!

Actually that makes perfect sense...The girl that called in asked if he would be performing New Year's Eve...so that must have been during the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 concert performance. Prince's comment is linked from the passage of year 1999 into 2000. Now if you remember the lyrics and the meaning of the song [b]"1999" he is speaking about judgment day(war, destruction, bloodshed)therefore the sky would be filled with blood(under a blood red sky) and the comment about red and blue make purple...well "The sky was all purple...There were people runnin' everywhere."[/b] So you see the answer was YES! Right brain thinkers will definitely understand this. Also some people are equally adept at both modes (whole brain). Just for fun take a look at this: http://www.news.com.au/he...61,00.html [Edited 12/26/07 23:56pm] He was also saying it slightly tongue in cheek, not in some intense, serious way

He wanted to appear mysterious & elusive early on. Then, as time went on & the world realized that he wasn't that interesting beyond his music, & on top of that, fickle & contradictory, the approach stuck. The less sense he makes, the harder it is to be caught in a lie. It's also very much based on his desire to be the one in control. Kind of like "Your question doesn't fit with my zany agenda, so I'm going to talk about the Scriptures and avoid why you wanted the interview in the first place."

It was in response 2 Tavis asking him about the meaning of Purple Rain, or 1999... can't remember. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

Because he thinks he is on a "level" no one else has any idea of. Mostly this "level" is his ego. I think he feels as though the music speaks for itself, and for the most part it does. A lot of times it doesn't. For someone who is truly genius, he never talks bout his music. Actually he never talks about anything really. Christian Zombie Vampires

[Edited 12/26/07 19:59pm] If it's not always....it certainly is most of the time. I am trying to recall a time recently where he was giving straight up answers and not something prewritten/thought that wasn't a lot of Purple Mumbo Jumbo Christian Zombie Vampires
