Clare Fischer Arrangements

Can someone tell me what this actually means?

I mean, does it make a huge difference to the sound of a Prince song? I don't really understand how it works confused

You can tell I'm not a musician! lol

That's the boring symphony type stuff that Prince sometimes puts in his music, especially during the "Parade" era.

That's the gorgeous strings (mainly) type stuff that Prince sometimes has Clare Fischer add to his tracks. Certainly a lot of this in the Parade era, which includes the Jill Jones cut Mia Bocca.

Crystal Ball is definitely my favourite Fischer arrangement - some real off the wall orchestration going on which still gives me chills down my spine!.

Damn U (from the symbol album) is a more standard embellishment that sweetens the song, while (IMHO) the orchestral treatment on Old Friends 4 Sale on the title track is unnecessary and gets in the way of a song that really should have been kept in its 1st version ! Sometimes you can get too much of a good thing though it's certainly not all 'boring' smile

Well, two very opposite points of view there lol

So, Clare Fischer actually has an orchestra? Don't laugh, I really don't understand it, and decides on an orchestral arrangement that would sound good, or 'add' something to the track P sends him?

Thanks for your patience wink

We all know you're a closet Parade fan in denial.

Come out for Christmas.

Admit it.

We know you feel a sense of shame, but honestly you'll feel so much better when you declare it to us all.

We can help you with the pain.

But you have to take the first step.

smile

Think that about sums it up ! Fischer scores parts out (sometimes with a few pointers from Prince), hires the orchestral players in, then the tapes probably go back to Paisley Park (or the parts might even be played at Paisley Park, I don't know)

Supposedly: The parts are arranged and played outside of Paisley Park and outside of any personal contact with Prince... it's like a game they play, never meeting. Prince doesn't know what he'll get back. And he often throws out what he gets back. Or uses only certain layers.
