Woooh...

Prince's last great rock song...

That is a hard rock/psychedelic-trippy song that kicks ass.

Has he ever performed it live?

Interesting. Now that I think of it, Prince has done a lot of music that could easily be classified as rock. But "hard" (No, not metal. It is Prince we're talking about razz) rock? There's not a whole lot. I'd venture the aforementioned Bambi, Da Bang, and C&D qualify. I guess that rougher rock sound just isn't the lady's cup of tea. shrug

Prince has never done any hard rock in the studio. He always tends to water it down.(ie, Fury, Bambi, Lets go crazy, Endorphine, C&D)

Live, he's given it a good go. Whole Lotta love (2002), sister (1988), Endorphine Machine (1995) come to mind.

There R dozens more songs not mentioned here, but I am mentioning one in particular...

"Three Chains O' Gold"

That is about the heaviest rock opera type cut I've ever heard.

Seems 2 me that a metal head would love that tune.
"He's a musician's musician..."

Trying not to repeat what others have suggested...

Days of Wild (the guitar version from NPG Ahdio Show #1)
Calhoun Square

listen to that brontosaural solo on "The War" and tell me that ain't hard rock

the song itself falls into some weird trippy drugged out category tho, but ay
that solo is fierce

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Habibi".

It was released on the NPGMC site and never made it to an album, but it's one of the most hard-rocking songs he's ever recorded.

it would b cool 2 hear prince break out that metal zone pedal every now and then and have a drummer like michael b or john blackwell that could pound it out hard and heavy
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

"Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad"..P used to kill this live (in 81) with the extended solo at the end and the "I Feel For You" chorus riffs.

Wonderwall

I gotta say its Lets Go Crazy from the Lovesexy tour. When he breaks it down with the "go go go..go go go" then comes roaring back with a serious headbanging climax. That is the closest he ever cameto heavy metal.

other mentions for the hard rock category:

Endorphinemachine
Bambi
1st half of the Chaos and Disorder CD (minus Dinner With Delores)
Whole Lotta Love live
