how many people live under rocks?

i couldnt quite believe it a month or so ago...
now i know that i dont know a lot of things i should know, various historical and geographical facts that one should really know...
but an artist like prince is just someone everyone knows surely..

but i was taking a course with someone..and when i was chatting about music tastes i mentioned prince, he said "who?" i was shocked..utterly shocked; he didnt have a clue who prince was, never heard of him or his music; either he has lived under a rock his whole life (20 years old confused ) or he is simply a complete fool with no taste..though even people with no taste have heard of prince...some haters even still admire his talent.

he now lives someowhere else..and while i somehow have him on msn, i have no real interest in speaking to him lol.

but does anyone else know of ignorance as stunning as this?
Wouldn't you love to love me?

Now thats ignorant. lol WOW that guy must have not listened to music growing up. Like you said even if he has no taste, he couldn't have grown up without at least hearing Prince on the radio or seeing him on tv. Nearly impossible especially a few yrs ago when Prince was really really doing his thing. Wow...scary. omfg

Surely if you'd sung a few bars of something like Kiss or When Doves Cry then he might have recognised one of them neutral Otherwise I don't know what to say. There's really no hope in some people.

I knew a guy just a year younger than me who'd never heard of Chaka Khan's I Feel For You. OK, so fine, but his music taste consisted of 90% female soul singers.

Maybe the parents were strictly rockers and the kids were never exposed...
Sooner or later, Prince's music will filter into their awareness. cool

On Saturday I went to pick up my dry cleaning and I have a Controversy button/pin on my jacket (made it myself! mr.green). Anyway, the lady asked me who it was and I said, "Prince." She had no clue who he was. I was like,

"Purple Rain?"

"1999? (2000-zero-zero party over oops out of time?)"

"Little Red Corvette?"

"Kiss?"

She didn't know ANY of them. So I'm guessing Prince wasn't that big in China. lol. I'm tempted to burn her a copy of the Hits and take the next time I drop off my dry cleaning. lol

Oh, well China I can understand. His music was probably banned there in the 80s and 90s.

Yes!, Back in Fall of 1989 i was taking some College courses, i was 24 and the other college kids were the patent 18/19 years of age and they had no clue who the "ROLLING STONES" were. i mean really!!! What kind of Parents did they have anyway, that their kids did not know who the Rolling Stones were? It bothered me greatly that there was such a huge generational gap at even my age back then. Not happy about that. Made me feel older than i was. Amazingly enough though, i Love being 42 and i'll love turning 43. i go on though. But Happy Thanksgiving smile smile

You have to remember that there was a period there between 2000-2004 that he was more or less completely out of the spotlight in terms of media exposure, and even before then, in the mid/late 1990s, he wasn't exactly setting the world on fire like he was in the 80s

So if you were a young teenager in those years (which is when most people really start to get into pop culture/music etc.), it's no surprise that you could go through your teenage years without even hearing of him - especially if you live outside the States or mainland Eurpoe. Down here in Australia, I would guess that half the current teenage population wouldn't know who he is.
