prince's bass work now and then

i was listening to early time albums and prince's albums
and i noticed how much his bass playing was diffrent then today.

he was much more into slap pop groove oriented playing.
bass playing on get it up is very very funky.

now days his bass playing is more skilled but more mellow and softisicated.
so what period of his bass playing you dig more?

I love it all but I really enjoy the early 80's bass work he did. nod

He's actually the one who inspired me to want to play bass

His style of muted playing is just too cool on this. Speaking of his bass playing, one of my current favorite things to listen to is his bass track from G-Spot. His fills are just crazy, especially when you consider how simple of a bass line the song has. Funky, melodic, and totally Prince.

in his recent works, it's kind of hard 2 tell if it's him since he started using the likes of rhonda and sonny t 2 play bass while recording.
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

All three of his last albums... 'Musicology', '3121', & 'Planet Earth' feature mostly 100% Prince on Bass Guitar.

Tell me about it ! wink
I read a great article a while ago where Sonny T was talking about "Shaming" a slang word they had back in the days for not actually playing notes while slapping..just kinda using them as tonal colors in the rhythm..Brownmark was ALL OVER THAT Vibe..back in The PR/Parade days.
