I loved cats as a kid up until about the late 80s. I had one when I was real young, but don't remember what it looked like or even what I named it. My mother's friend gave it to me (although I would find out I was allergic to 'em). That cat eventually got killed by a neighbor's dog.

Fast forward to the 80s (after having a family dog for years). I used to love my new neighbor's cats, and he had a lot of them, because they'd have kittens all the time and he'd never give any away or sell them. My mom's house was like their second home because I would spoil them, my neices and nephews liked them too, but wouldn't necessarily spoil them like I would.

So eventually these cats began to exhibit some nasty, NASTY habits.

They'd on my mother's patio.

One pissed on my niece's leg while she was over at the neighbor's house.
One got into our house and started scratching the furniture with its claws (all cats do this for some reason).
They make damn ANNOYING LOUD noises when they mate - and it seemed they'd ALWAYS mate right outside my window when I tried to sleep at night.
Some of them have the nerve to hiss at you while you're at your own house and you want them out of your own yard.
They also jump up on your kitchen counter if they smell some food up there, regardless of whose house it is. The nerve!

These cats were THE most ill-mannered cats I had ever been around. They're good for keeping mice away, and that's it. It's a myth that cats can't be trained, but...dogs:

Run with you during your daily excercises,

Fetch frisbees, or anything else you train them to,

Keep interlopers away,

Keep nasty-ass cats away (like the dog my family used to have),

Alert you when they hear something you can't,

Seek out criminals and put a hurtin' on their asses,

Fetch certain things you need and don't want to get off your lazy ass to get,

Guard your property, whatever it is, big or small, etc.

They're more playful, reliable, loyal, and much more physically equipped to do things that cats aren't equipped to do.

I can tolerate cats that aren't mine (but hell no would I spoil them like I used to), as long as they're not EVIL like the cats I've had bad experiences with. But forced to choose it's CANINES in the blink of an eye. German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers are THE BEST DOGS IN THE WORLD. When my family's German Shepherd ran after cats that were already across the street I'd call the dog, as if I really cared. Once my dog finally got through chasing she'd slowly walk back to the house with her shoulders hunched like she thought I'd scold her, and out of sight of everyone else, I'd pet her and it would be...Good girl! Good girl! GOOOD GIRRRL!!!

It's not that I wanted her to kill the cat (if that was her intention) - I didn't, at that time I loved cats. But I sure as hell wasn't going to punish my dog for doing what dogs do!

And that's that, your honor.

But the prosecution will never rest...because I've been scarred, your honor. And it's still painful.





Wild cats, on the other hand, always have a special place in my heart.
