XPECTATION/N.E.W.S/TRC-a step forward..PE,MUSICOLOGY a step back??

just been digging on that forgotten jewel XPECTATION and its taken me a few years but i love it now

i have never heard princes rythmn guitar sound so fluent-the artistry of this album is realy dawning on me.

the musicianship is flawless

same with TRC i could listen to the title track forever especially the bridge when that beautiful guitar breaks in

would have been intresting if P had chosen this path though i suspect with the success of the last 3 albums the coffers are now full and this means he can do what he wants again

personally i loved 3121 and always welcome the funk though hoping P continues to follow his muse

we shall see!

Anxiety

i think creative flow was inspiring albums like 'xpectation' and 'TRC' but then commercial success began to inspire his work once 'musicology' happened. i don't know if the well is dry or if he's afraid to take risks creatively again for fear of being knocked off his throne of mainstream success. i may not listen to some of those 'experimental' albums a whole lot, but i sure do appreciate them and i was really excited about where it was taking him. i hope he finds that path again and resumes wandering down it a bit (a LOT) farther. we've had three albums of standard fare prince-lite...i'm ready for something we can chew on again.

TRC/Xpectation/NEWS/ONA - A step in the right direction nod

Musicology/3121 - A total step backwards to the dark days of Emancipation thru Rave barf

PE - Getting back on track thumbs up! let's see what happens next hmmm

nod

absolutely agree. TRC, Xpectation and NEWS were very encouraging steps to me, even if they occasionally lacked consistency. I thought Prince was exploring a different chapter in his repertoire that we don't get to hear often. Musicology forward I was less excited about. Musicology remains one of my 3 least favourite Prince albums.
