The REAL story behind the song 'Sister'(?) Today is was reading a biography about Prince again, and it made me 'see' the real story behind the lyrics from 'sister'. At least, i think this is the real deal.
In short: When Prince was age 7, his biological father John L. Nelson did divorce Princes mom, Mattie. After a while Mattie did remarry with Hayward Baker, who allready had children of his own, including Sharon Baker, who was older then Prince. She became a halfsister of him. When Sharon became older she moved to New York. Prince did stay at her house for a while when he was 16 and looking for a recordcontract in the Big apple. Looking at the lyrics of the 'sister' you can see that Prince is singing about: 'I was only 16, and just half a man' and 'my sister was 32, lovely and loose'. Those lines make me think Prince had a sexual experience with his halfsister in New York. Since Sharon is not a bloodrelative of him, technically it wasnt a case of 'incest' as he sings about in the song. But i guess he choose the word for shock value, and to make it fit in with the other provocative lyrics on the album. What do you think, a plausible theory? [Edited 10/19/07 12:36pm] | |

Me too, and more than that I think it's just wordplay. I think he was singing about "a sister" (and I know he says "my sister" but I still stand by my belief  ) and added the incest line as a funny/shocking wordplay that made it seem like "his sister."My Legacy

I really hate this website sometimes.
It's quite apparent from the kissing scenes in Purple Rain that Prince was more a man of fantasy than a Casanova. I would imagine Sister is along the same lines. He's just pointing out taboo subjects, maybe in an effort to be provocative, maybe in an effort for some media attention, but I doubt the song is anyting but fiction. [Edited 10/20/07 9:57am] | |

His on screen kissing means nothing more than that and if you do your reserch he has stated that his sister Sharon lived in Rahway NJ he commuted to NY to look for a record deal. If Prince's Step Father already had children when he married his mother, that would make her Prince's Step Sister. Not half sister. Some people think I'm kinda cute
