Do not instigate, engage in, or encourage 'flame wars'. If you insult someone "jokingly", be prepared to have it not interpreted that way by the Moderators. A good general rule: "criticize ideas, not people." Which I believe should also include Prince & if you feel that way about him, why are you here? This is supposed to be a "fan" based site.

I understand SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy has a right to his/her opinion, however, I agree it is a bit offensive. It could have been worded in a more tactful, less offensive way. Remember, there are young people that visit this site & the message being sent to them by condoning this kind of talk.

And those young people risk being sued for viewing a PRINCE VIDEO. That would affect their life much more than seeing a word they probably use at school everyday nod

Y'all need to get a damn grip. For real lol

You have to love the robots who glorify such evil actions. falloff Watch a Prince video on your computer, get sued. WTF are people celebrating that shit for? lol Go back to 3121, don't they have the forums over there where there is unlimited ass kissing? I wish the npgmc never closed because now we got spillage of the famatics that can't admit that Prince is a human being engaging in evil actions against people who have never done anything to him but support his stupid ass.

As for what I do with my life, it's great! biggrin Saw PJ Harvey last night and I don't have to worry about being sued for it! biggrin

This IS a skanky whore house! Have you ever been to GD? lol Bottom line, I'm not afraid to challenge the false idol that is Prince. He is and will always remain my favorite musician because of what his music has meant and done for my life but when I think of Prince, I think of him before he got all stupid with his fans and before he got guilted into a godtrip. Whatever. You guys love that Prince, I don't. I'll listen to my records and remember the guy who really stood for some amazing things. Now he just wants money at whatever cost. How can he honestly ask that a fan site pay him money for hosting images and videos that have only PROMOTED HIM!. And look, all that without cursing..... Either way, my point stands lol

This is such a stupid statement:

"Looks like somebody really needs to step away from the computer...take a long look at what they are doing with their own life...and find something else to do with it! It's just a suggestion...you might begin to feel better...really!"

Suggesting to someone to look at their life and to find something else to do it with it is silly. This is a fan website. We all pop in here to discuss many things. It, under no circumstance means that we have no life, when we voice an opinion about our musical hero. I hate it when people suggest I get a life when I don't agree with Prince. Yes, Prince is my musical hero but I think his last three albums sucked. Was that offensive? Should I evaluate my life and self-worth? Prince fams are so touchy...relax.

btw...my life rocks!

I have to say that having been a Prince fan for 24yrs I am appauled at Prince's legal stance towards fansites...in the past..and certainly right now.

What some ppl conveniently forget to remember is that Prince lost a whole lot of longterm fans post - WB right up to his Musicology return. Despite this some of us remained with him, supported him and continued to purchase all we could and attend his concerts. Supposedly he was ok with the free publicity back then.

He also used to cuss a hell of a lot. Presumably ppl offended by members cussing on here have conveniently erased such a fact from their memory. Were you offended back then with Prince? Or have you self - cnsored those albums? I personally don't swear a great deal but certainly also don't pass judgement on those that do.

Personally I love seeing Prince live....O2 performaces were great. But having a 24 yr background on the guy has given me a pretty good, level headed understanding of the man and his PUBLIC actions. He can be flakey...many of us know that.

Perhaps it would be useful to read between the lines on what many fans are saying about Prince's actions towards fansites right now, without tripping on the cussing alongside it. Many of us have defended and supported him for so many years; he is starting to alienate the very ppl that provided him with a wage during the lean years. Now that he bites off the hands that fed him is it so surprising to witness such utter disbelief and bewilderment?!

It's great to read so much support for what HQ are standing up for right now. I'm sure the team appreciate it. David and Goliath springs to mind.....much like Prince V WB back in the day.....

Thank you! How many of those fans stuck with him the first time when he sued his fans? How many of those fans stuck with him through the years he was losing his mind? Many of them. Prince wants to cry about the injustice of the music industry against him and then pulls this music industry tactic to try and get cash from his fans in such a ridiculous way. If you want to be blind to this, that is fine but don't dare ask any of us who aren't having this to kiss his ass.

Great post! This is exactly how I feel. I can remember Prince giving an interview just before Gold Experience, and was holding up the CD and telling the fans that WB will not free the music and allow him to release it. I guess back then defiance and freedom were words he understood. But that was some 10 years ago... people get older and change. shrug

Fair points... but how is it PROMOTION when it just circulates the FAN sites?? I don't know about anyone else, but I started browsing for fan forums after I became a fan of his music. I didn't happen to stumble across HQ's video section and discover this amazing musician. It just works to please those who are fans to begin with... which is where I think we us fans get greedy. A lot feel he is indebted to us or something. It's a question of his image and his right to promote it as he sees fit. I think it slightly undermines him to go against his wishes. He's given us so many great memories (It cost me more to get into a club in Soho than it did to watch a 3 hour aftershow at the Indigo2!!) and I say seriously, WHO GIVES A FUCK? As much as I like HQ, I'm of the opinion they are on a serious ego trip where they try to think they are on an equal playing field with the guy they are supposed to SUPPORT. These recent events haven't changed my preception of him one bit.

I don't see how this fits into the issue of freedom of speech AT ALL. We can still say whatever the hell we want about him. Using his image in ways he doesn't seem fit is not free speech. Even if he has no legal standing (with copyrights and such), I think he has a PERSONAL right to control HIS image. All IMHO.

It's always been my understanding (not sure how accurate that is) that Prince has never been overly fond of fan websites. I know he use to talk about how the only one to ever idolize is God, not him, and seemed to really hate all the idolatry that went along with being a star. The difference between Housequake.com and this site, is that Housequake centered around Prince all the time. I'm not even sure they had a forum there that wasn't about Prince (I could be wrong as I never explored that site much). Also, there were no rules regarding what could or couldn't be posted. If it was Prince related, it was fair game. Whereas on the org, there are rules about discussing bootlegs, rules about posting "news", picture threads are allowed, and they have a prince pic gallery, BUT there isn't a forum dedicated to prince pictures in which people can post them willynilly for everyone to comment upon. We do that at times in the PMM forum at times with threads, but mainly it's talking points, not picture threads. Also, as far as I can tell, the org always stayed away from the sharing of videos, I'm assuming due to the copyright issues of said videos. So while housequake had a lot of videos and pictures and idolatry as such with each, the org hasn't had that, and seemed more respectful of copyright laws and such.

Now regarding the lawsuits, we don't know how many letters were sent before hand, how many times they were asked to take certain content down before hand, etc., and prince's team may have felt this was their only resort. There is always two sides to every story, and simply looking at one side gives one a biased view. So I reserve judgement on the lawsuits until I hear both sides and can mesh up the truth somewhere in the middle.

As per my earlier post, I think describing someone as a c*** is appalling and can not be described as "discussion". In a post, the Mod described the c*** comment as "a topic for discussion" and added a smiley face. I did ask the Mod to review. People should be able to post in forums without reading that sort of language. If describing someone as a c*** is not vulgar, then I wonder what is? And please, I'm not looking for an answer to that question! LoL...

All IMHO.

freedom of speech...I'm referring to the HQ ethos that ANY view, if supported constructively, is supported...whether about Prince or not.

As for your second point, I disagree. Prince CHOOSES to be in the PUBLIC arena.....especially when performing, attending awards shows etc. He cannot stop ppl taking photos of him at such events. He even had his team try and stop video clips of televised shows that he appeared on....I mean, why wouldn't ppl record such appearances.

I just think, IMO, there are far more important issues he could address through his legal team.

Well you're probably right about that.

I just don't see how being a public figure should automatically give free reigns over his image. He's not Paris Hilton and the like who made it by just being 'there'. He's well past the stage of establishing himself so he's in a position to limit the circulation of his image if he wants.

And sorry for misunderstanding the free speech bit. I still think HQ, and its mods, ride a major high horse though. Again, IMHO.

Fair points... but how is it PROMOTION when it just circulates the FAN sites?? I don't know about anyone else, but I started browsing for fan forums after I became a fan of his music. I didn't happen to stumble across HQ's video section and discover this amazing musician.

confuse

What I don't understand is this... please here this, mis-informed people....

HQ VIDEO SECTION HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR MONTHS![!! So why do people keep using this as a reason that Prince has the right to restrict his videos as a good reason to bug HQ?????

The difference between Housequake.com and this site, is that Housequake centered around Prince all the time. I'm not even sure they had a forum there that wasn't about Prince (I could be wrong as I never explored that site much).

you are wrong... but at least you are open to acknowledging that you could be mis-informed. smile

Whereas on the org, there are rules about discussing bootlegs....

Are you saying it is wrong/illegal/immoral to talk about boots? Give me a break!

People talk about God, the Devil, Heaven and Hell.... nobody says it is WRONG to TALK about it. This is USA... I can talk about what ever the hell I want. I can talk about Prince boots, I can even talk about sitting in a hotel lobby masturbating with a magazine....
get my drift???

Huh? I know it's been closed for months. I just used it as an example. Whether it's videos or photos - they don't serve the purpose of promotion since they are viewed by those that are fans to begin with.
