Life through a Lens

Ok so Ive just been nosing around on ebay and there for sale are photos from Prince's O2 shows-which made me wonder how the guy selling them actually got a camera in and had the nerve to take pics-some of the shots are quite close up.

I know a few people who attempted to take pics and were quickly greeted by a bulky security guard!!

Anyway what do you guys think about living life in the spotlight? I mean is Prince still houneded by photographers etc? I dont think I would enjoy having my every move documented by a photographer what you guys think on this?

I know it comes with the territory and all but just because Prince is in the public eye does not make him public property.
Oh Princey if your free for a couple of hours...If you aint busy for the next 7 years...Lets Pretend were married, and go all night..

I can't be very easy, but I think Prince is suited to that lifestyle pretty well. I'm sure there is a part of him that gets a little nervous when he has to speak. That's why he prefers to let his music speak for him most of the time.

But life in the public eye has people question every little thing about his behavior and sometimes gives them false perceptions of him.
I'm not sure if even the vision I have of him is correct, but I take all things into account. Both his music and interviews and what I hear about him in the media.

But he has a certain confidence about him that has me believe that he can handle it just fine. cool

Prince has been living in the limelight for over 20 years now, I'm sure he has become accustomed to all the stares and flashing lightbulbs. I myself don't think I could handle all the attention, this could be a reason why so many other celebs end up on crack. I honestly think Prince would not be ok, if he had to rely on being just an ordinary joe. His stature alone would make him an easy target for disrespect anywhere he'd go. His fame brings him acceptance.

He talked about that in the 9/16 aftershow:

"There used to be a time when I could walk down the street -- just like you. Nobody wanted a picture of me. Now everybody want one. Like I'm some animal in a zoo. I used to be like you. I could go to the supermarket. If my mama asked me...mama asked me to pick her up some cigarettes and tampons...I could...y'know I could... What! What! Oh, like your mom ain't told you...

You'd hide it in the bag...tryna get back...hoping none o' your friends saw you. Don't play. Please.

Yeah, I used to be just like you. Summertime in New York. Walkin' around...just havin' a good time. Lookin' at all the girls. All the girls lookin' at me...to tell me to get outta the way so they could see my cuter friend. Oh, I'd hang around. I hung around with the...with the cute dudes. So I could...ya know...ya know... The big tall...ya know...dark, handsome...I...that's me...right with 'em. So...ya know...I could...whatever they didn't want...I could just..."Hi, you think we could...uh...never mind..."

But those days are gone. I can't even go outside no more. Ya think I don't miss it? Yeah, I miss it. And some crazy fool come up to you with a camera. And he got six other crazy fools with 'im. He says, 'If I could just get a picture of you and Michael Jackson together...if I could just...I could retire, Prince! Just let me git it.' That's when I knew things had changed.

Inside, I'm still the same. Somethin' else changed. Inside, I'm still the same. Somethin' else changed."

There ya go.

Prince does that cause he wants that.. celebrities can easily find other ways of escaping the media .. they choose not too.. i believe that cause of Jennifer Lopez.. ever since she married Marc Anthony.. he cut all that mess right out after they married.. you dont see her in the papers anymore with drama.. celebrities can control their surroundings.. the ones you see all the time.. want that exposure.. really think about that.. some of the other really big famous folks.. you never hear about them (Denzel, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, etc..) unless they want to be seen ..

Most people are being filmed whether they realize it or not.
No need to be upset about it, it's for protection overall.

What I really wonder...

is what he's like if you knew him personally.

The press & media point one direction (that he's selfish and arrogant) and his music points another (he's kind, sensitive and generous).

Which is the true Prince?
What is he really like if you were his friend?

I'm sure there's a little bit of arrogance in there cuz he knows that he's awesome at what he does.
But he's also very humble about his accomplishments and tries not to boast too much.

Or is the idea of an enigma a thought we as his admirers have created?

It isn't an interview. It's a transcript of a section of Girls & Boys from the 9/16 aftershow. There's no link. And if there were, I couldn't post it -- ifyouknowhatImeanandIthinkyoudo.

Too right it is, I was there!

In fact, that has to be a pretty much exact transcript of what was actually said, too good to be from memory - someone had a little dictaphone I think....!

The other day I was on the train coming home from work and these two ladies just kept staring at me, I got so annoyed I thought this must be how Prince feels, can you imagine people staring at you all the time. No wonder he tells folks not to do it! lol

I was taught by an old woman when I was little, she said "Don't mind when other people stare at you, 'cause trust me, if you were ugly, they'd look away!" You must have been lookin' real good that day smile

If Prince knew that, he wouldn't care how hard people stared, would not phase him one bit.

Must be really hard to live like that, make you feel like you're being stalked! But in Minneapolis I thought there was hardly any media and photogs there and that he felt relatively freer there. Didn't he say that he likes it there because it's so cold over there nobody bothers him?

I guess everywhere else people must bug him for pictures though!

Personally, I think that he should hire an entourage of burly bodyguards, so he can hide behind them!

wink razz lol
