My "Summer of Prince"

Maybe this will better catch everyone else up about what I've done when I was barred from the site.

I've gotten a whole mess of albums since I "left". Actually, I got 2 of them just after we lost the computer 2 "the blue screen of death". Courtesy of one of the members here.

Dirty Mind & Controversy
The first of the two, LOVED it. I mean, it started out as pretty safe and cool and collected or whatever. Then WHAM, it took me by surprise after entering "Uptown"... but that's just the kind of the thing that made it awesome for me. Controversy, came off as lesser than the previous... but "Do me baby" and "Private Joy" are my 2 favorite tracks. It reminds me of ATWIAD cuz its thought-provoking and fun.

Then 7/7/07, I got 4 albums.
SOTT (which I'm putting on half until the end of the year), prince (which I'm currently in love with), Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic (which I gotta listen to more cuz it came off as very odd 2 me)... and 1999 (took me a little while, but it's become one of my favorites)

I also got and saw "Under the Cherry Moon" and loved it. And got the 20th anniversery of PR.

Then I got Planet Earth (loved it and it kept getting better, but I'm putting it aside 4 a while cuz I'm busy on something else)

And just this weekend, I got Diamonds & Pearls and one more mystery album. I'm not gonna tell anyone cuz I want to know how I feel about it b4 running at the mouth about it. It's off the beaten path and a bit of an obscure choice, but the fact I found it means something, so I got it.

I'm working thru Diamonds & Pearls currently and also checking into prince here and there... D&P, I'll say it met my expectations. It's got some "WOW" in a couple of tracks, but otherwise, its average & ordinary, but in some places, very beautiful.

Any questions? giggle

Edit: Oh yeah, and I gave Prince at least an hour or 2 a day for me to listen to an album and write about it in my notebook... not a purple notebook, mind u, but a spiral all the same. And I pretty much spent the summer working thru the new albums I was getting. As far as my collecting goes, I'm done until Christmas

the blue screen of death? you were banned from the site?? eek eek omg tell me more! neutral

but yea, I liked ure review of 1999 (though I do like DMSR) and of the prince album. but it really does seem like you had a Prince summer. I'm so jealous. I mean, I bought several albums on 7/7/07- but nothing like what you did.

D&P was more of his commercial albums I think. Like when he was making it, he had the general public's opinion in mind or something. [Don't get me started on Jughead though- I listed to 30 sec. or so of that song and I get why ppl hate it.]

Its good 2 have ya back DreamyPop- we need ure TGE love.hug lol- I'll never forget that. giggle

The story pretty much is that my dad thinks that this site was responsible for our computer frying... I'd say it was one of them picture threads.

I'll post my review of 1999 here soon enough. Just gotta dig into my "archives" (my Word doc and my blog) and I'll have it up soon enough.

I haven't commented on Diamonds & Pearls after getting 2 it last night. I'll start a thread after I give it one more listen. The 3rd listen is generally where I make up my mind on how I feel about an album (except 1999, which took me a lot longer).

TGE and I, I guess "aren't on speaking terms" right now. The last time I listened to it, the interpretation kinda came off the wrong way to me. I thought "Gold" was the end of his "journey" and he had found what he was looking 4... nope... he was still searching for that certain something.
I'll try to work my way back to it, of course, but I'm stuck between D&P and prince right now, bouncing the two off one another. But on its own, D&P is a good album, just nothing too extraordinary that it can stand up to anything like 1999.

the next few days im a gonna start a new "storyline" on my blog

It'll be called

"Readjusting from Purple 2 Technicolor Reality"

it sure ain't gonna be easy to put Prince on the shelf with my academics coming first cuz I spent so much time with him over the summer.

but in a few days, I should be "with it" again.
