Which is Prince's best cover song? Prince released very few cover songs on his official ablums. Maybe only in 1996's Emancipation("Betcha By Golly, Wow" by The Stylistics and "La La La Means I Love You" by The Delfonics).
But He always makes tributes to great masters on stage. My favorite live track is his live cover of Sly & The Family Stone's Thank U Falletinme Be Mice Elf Again - U Can Make It If U Try - Viva Las Vegas(Live May 30th 1999)

there was also the version of Sheryl Crow's "Everyday Is A Winding Road" on RaveUn2ThejoyFantastic.
fave studio cover would be BetchaByGollyWOW! fave live covers would be Jimi's "Voodoo Chile",which he played live in 1994."Shoop",with the lyrics of Gett off/SexyMF/Acknowledge Me.& "Red House"/Purple House from the Rave dvd, that was so wild! WOO!! when, after about a minute & a half,he kicks in2 it,it still gets my jaw wide in AWE there are prolly more fave live covers that will come 2 me soon. ***************************************************************************************

Betcha By Golly Wow and La,la,la la la...means I Love you and also What If God Was One Of Us. Prince did these songs wonderfully. I also like his cover of Honky Tonk Woman.

Me too! I lot of people hate his rendition of this song, but I love it. I also loved his and the NPG's rendition of "Whole Lotta Love" from the celebration. ***************************************************
Seems like the overly critical people are the sheep now days. It takes guts to admit that you like something. -Rdhull ...it ain't where ya from, it's where ya at... - Rakim

One Of Us.
I love the guitar work. It sounds like a Prince song. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

"A Case Of You" has always sort of belonged to him. That has always been one of the most important songs of his career, even with the bootleg PR live version. Touching. Very real.
Unlike "Betchamagollyboowovel" or whatever, which was pure plastic for people who give plastic a bad name. Oops, there it goes. I said it.

I also loved his and the NPG's rendition of "Whole Lotta Love" from the celebration. i hate it because prince doesnt seem to understand the lyrics...he sings it as if he dissapointed in not being able to f*ck a chick...he gets all sexual towards the end and ad-lips this horrid lyrics about how he can *love* her.. well, the orginal song is intended as a last act of desperation from someone who has already *lost* love...she/he is singing that they now acknowledge there is no love...because, "i cant make you love me, if you dont"...its a bitter, sad and lonely song...prince tried to turn it into another pimp-athon... i cant make you edit, if you wont.... I'd definitely have to say he did a great rendition of Alicia Keys' "How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore". 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I just wanna say some songs mentioned by fams above are actually Prince's originals.
How come you don't call me anymore" is first officially published on 1993's Disc 3 of The Hits. It's a B-Side song of 1999. Its most famous and outstanding cover is Stephanie Mills'. Stephanie was even praised by Prince himself as an angel. Of course, many other black singers rendered this totally jazzy song, including Alicia Keys. "Kiss" is defenitely Prince's timeless hit from his Soundtrack Parade from 1986. It's not by Tome Jones. As to "Nothing Compares To You", it was written by Prince for Sinead O'Corner at first, but we can't say that Prince covered this song. Peace!

I have to agree. This is probably my favorite cover song by Prince so far. --If a man is considered guilty for what goes on in his mind, then give me the electric chair for all my future crimes.-- Electric Chair/Batman/Prince

if memory serves me correct wasnt Hide The Bone a cover
if so then i think that rocks!! Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
