MC Hammer "Pray" (1990) #2 US #8 UK (sampled)

thats why i said sampled it samples when doves cry

# A 50 percent stake in Hammer's 1990 smash "U Can't Touch This" (the estate of late funketeer Rick James gets the other half thanks to the "Super Freak" sample)
# A 62.5 percent share of "Turn This Mutha Out" (with the rest going to George Clinton for the sample of Parliament's "Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker)")
# A 75 percent share of "Addams Groove" and "Pray" (with Prince getting 25 percent of the latter for its "When Doves Cry" sample)

Title should be:

'TOP 40 HITS WRITTEN BY PRINCE per4med by OTHER ARTISTs'

The one's that stick out on 1st glance are Nothing Compares 2 U, When Doves Cry, How Come U Don't Call Me (these 3, I believe, weren't intentionally written for the artists listed).

Are we sure he wrote Stand Back for Stevie Nicks?

There have been various rumors on his involvement in this song but has anything ever been confirmed?

He specifically programmed and played the keyboard parts from what I remember her saying, not the vocals or lyrics.

ASCAP's website lists Prince as 'Writer' (I got the ASCAP search tip from the orgers here). Search for '490515592' with T-Code or 'Stand Back' on the Title search page:
http://www.ascap.com/ace/...ode=search

Google Stevie Nicks Stand Back Prince and Prince's involvement warrants much less than solo writer credit (and that ASCAP's database needs to be better maintained!).

Melissa Tkautz "The Glamorous Life" (2005/2006) #31 (Australia)

Info is from wikipedia's 'Glamorous Life' entry ~ I was checking for the version by Eden's Crush, but I guess theirs didn't chart (and the above singer's version did).

Side note, after re-reading the title again, it works. I originally took it to mean that it was songs written specifically for other artists, but the phrasing works the other way (my mistake!).

Yea there was a clip of her on youtube awhile back, before she performed the song she gave the story about how he came in and did the keyboards - it was cool, i downloaded it - there's also this page http://www.inherownwords....ndback.htm where she gives a less detailed description (I phoned Prince out of the blue, hummed a melody, and he listened," says Nicks of the latter hit's gestation. "I hung up, and he came over within the hour. He listened again, and I said, 'Do you hate it?' He said, 'No,' and walked over to the synthesizers that were set up, was absolutely brilliant for about twenty five minutes, and then left. He was so uncanny, so wild, he spoiled me for every band I've ever had because nobody can exactly re-create - not even with two piano players-what Prince did all by his little self.)

Cool list.
elissa fiorillo ..... on the way up - USA No. 26 or 27 (depending on source)

Also, if you're interested in countries outside the USA or UK then heres a couple of chart positions i've come across:

Australia

No.1 - martika - love...thy will be done
No.15 - elissa fiorillo - on the way up

Ireland
Title: THE BELLE OF ST MARC Artist: SHEILA E Label: WARNER Date of entry: 03.02.1985 Highest Placement: 15 Weeks in the Charts: 6
Title: I FEEL FOR YOU (RE-MIX) Artist: CHAKA KHAN Label: WEA Date of entry: 05.10.1989 Highest Placement: 1 Weeks in the Charts: 7
as opposed to the original version 5 years earlier (Title: I FEEL FOR YOU Artist: CHAKA KHAN Label: WARNER BROS Date of entry: 21.10.1984 Highest Placement: 14 Weeks in the Charts: 1)

if you want the links of proof i'll post them

The "Kiss" - Tom Jones one sticks out like a sore thumb too. Clearly a Prince song covered (and murdered!!!) by Tom Jones.

Has anyone seen Tom Jones kill Purple Rain?? Seriously, he savaged it. The worst thing I have ever seen in my life EVER!!!

He should do time for that monstrocity. I really don't think I'm over-stating the point here.

It was bad!!!

I couldn't have sworn I've seen Stevie say she called him, he came in listened to the track, played the keyboard part, and left. and she listed him because that part made the song.

changed thought mid sentence edit.

Wowugotit

I stand corrected. I was unaware Prince shared writing credits for "Stand Back". Stevie Nicks always made it sound like Prince "inspired" the track but besides playing a keyboard, he didn't have anymore involvement. I was wrong...
