HMV pull Prince DVD from shelves

Just added to 3121 -

It seems a certain major UK music retailer can’t get enough of r favorite artist…

We visited one of their shops 2day 2 c if what we’d been hearing was true. The clerk disappeared in2 the back room 4 a while, returning 2 tell us that “4 legal reasons” the chain pulled every copy of a far-from-legal Prince DVD that had been on sale in their shops. Inaccurate song titles, unusual company names and packaging that features copyrighted photos apparently were not enough 2 tip off the store purchasers 2 something illegitimate when they first ordered the title. “The artist 4merly sold in record stores?” Yeah, right.

.....

Funnily enough i wondered why it was no longer showing as avilable on their website last night. Glad i got my copy a few months back!

so eventually official confirmation of what many of us always thought: that this DVD was indeed bogus. Crappy inaccurate song titles and listing, and videos seemingly transferred straight from a VCR.

only thing is it was sold in more places than just HMV. Bought mine at Play.com, and it also sold at Amazon UK so somehow someone got this through the system unnoticed!

Well, quite.

I still say it was a nice thing to have so long as you knew what you were buying.

Picture and sound quality were definitely not DVD quality, but having all those vids together drool

This is so funny - the head of HMV being so self righteous about only record stores being fit to sell albums hence the "artist formerly sold in record stores " comment and then we find his business ethics include selling bootlegs. Those with long memories will remember that this title was no.1 in the HMV chart.

I think HMV owe Prince a very public apology.

They have made profit on a product that Prince has made nothing from.

They have also chosen to lecture him on how to sell his creations.

Little wonder their profits have halved in a year - like many major companies they are run by a pompous and incompetent pillock.

Got mine from HMV mail order today. Good to have some of the rarer videos in decent quality. Why U Wanna Treat Me So Bad for example is really good picture.

Surreal this obvious bootleg made it to official retail though.
