LOVESEXY TOURBOOK COVER

Ok, some people love it, some people hate it. Heavy Make Up, strange outfit... But in all seriousness, why do YOU think Prince took this pic and chose it for the tourbook cover?

it is one of the most random artistic decisions he made... usually he stays away from the "drag" connotation to us fans... but this time there was no defense against the eyes of nonfans...

Personally I think the cover used for the tourbook would have been better as the album cover (and would probably have avoided the issue of many record stores refusing to carry it!)
'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

The whole getup just looks tacky. I have no problem with it looking feminine though. I prefer it to be feminine to piss homophobic motherfuckers off. He just should have come up with a better looking feminine outfit though.

I had this poster on my wall as a kid, next to the Controversy shower poster and the 1999 Night/Day windows one. Best bedroom wall in the neighbourhood. lol

I thinks it's a very cool picture. And I agree that THIS would have made a much better cover for the LoveSexy album.

I love it.Not many men can wear lots of make up and feminine clothes without looking like a drag queen.I don't understand, many rock artist did it and were considered cool. Prince did it and was considered gay.

It's designed to induce an epileptic fit so severe that the quotes within the book itself actually start making some sort of sense to those so affected.

I don't really like it
it reminds me of something
Lauryn Hill would try & pull off
at this point of her career

did anybody go & catch her in NY?
I really hate to change the subject
but look at this picture
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

eek lol Are you saying that with a straight face?

seriously...why would you want Prince to get ridiculed like that? If he had used this as the cover,it would have gotten just as much negative attention as the nude photo.

Nah,I think he should have used one of the photos inside the tourbook for the album cover:

I think Prince was very much so saying "Hey if white rockers can get away with this, why can't I?"

I also agree with VainAndy's "to piss homophobic motherfuckers off".
I think during the Lovesexy era Prince was trying to convey a message of "Universal Love" and his heavy make up was part of this statement. As far as the tacky wardrobe, Sheila has commented on how the two of them used to have competitions to see who could come up with the most outrageous costumes. The first pics I saw of Prince from the Lovesexy era were pictures of him wearing the "Eye Know" outfit in "Right On!" magazine; and I remember saying to myself what the hell is he wearing. This may have not been a very proud time for fans to interact Non Fans, but I always gave him props and respected him for his originality during this time.

Overall I think the make up was done just to shock; as opposed to the video for "TMBGITW" which was supposed to be a homage to "women" but turned out looking just plain dreadful.

As for Lauryn Hill, get help sweetie, it'll be ok...really.
