That Barry Manilow part on ´PE´ should be credited. The bass line of ´Chelsea´ is not directly copied from Daft Punk, but it really sounds like it was inspired by them. I wonder where coincidences happened or where it was on purpose.

it was a coincidence - I still can´t believe none of his musicians told him: "hey, this is Beatles, don´t you know?". Well, I can believe...

LOL nice. Ya, this is definitely Prince's "recycling" album in more ways than one. Hell, I wouldn't even mind all the theft if the songs were any good. Bob Dylan's last 2 albums garnered a bit of controversy because Dylan "stole" some lyrics from some Japanese book but the music is awesome anyway. Ironically the title of that album was 2001's "Love and Theft", one of his 3 late period masterpieces, the other 2 being 1998's Time out of Mind and 2006's "Modern Times" where Dylan "stole" blues lines...which is ironic because blues musicians did that all the time. With Prince's Planet Earth, the irony is a bit more...well, sad.

OP, what are you on to?
I mean, listen to his backcatalogue. Prince has ALWAYS borrowed heavily from other artists: Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, James Brown, Al Green, The Beatles, George Clinton, Jimmi Hendrix, Santana, Queen, Curtis Mayfield, Joni Mitchell. Nothing new here: he does it all the time.

Perhaps Prince (since apparenly he reads these forum things?) will take this as a critique when he hits the studio next time. He's still one my favorite musicians.

AvramsDad said: Kinda like looking for "EVERY" flaw in a person. We understand that "Prince" has sometimes "BORROWED" and at other times, blatantly "CAPTURED" the sounds or just the whole damn sequencing to other songs. But, nine times out of ten, it ain't gonna be "TOO" hard to find the same kind of influential pattern going around. I mean, this is not to be a kissass or anything like that, but isn't it a way of the nature in most artists? Yes, to strive to be "ORIGINAL" is a definite must for a "REAL ARTIST" (I guess), but influence is also important. Or, how else would we be capable of even feeding to the imagination.....hmmmmm.....
