Criticism of Prince's music...

or any other artists...
as spoken by Anton Ego, food critic from "Ratatouille"
"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so"

Fascinating. However,I feel those of us who have spent hundreds or thousands of dollars on Prince's music, concerts and other products, have the right to add our two cents. I reject the idea that we have no right so say if we feel an album, song or performance stinks. There are some people who contend that we can't discuss Prince's music on a Prince website. Is this Prince.org or PraisePrince.org?

what's your point? i dont give a shit whether my criticism is "meaningful" or not...i come on here and hq to discuss prince's music with other people, whether negatively and positively, because i enjoy talking to people about it. if i dont like a song, i'll say "i dont like this song". if i dont like a lot of songs over a long period of time, i'll say "i dont like a lot of songs over a long period of time, what the hell is prince doing?" i'm not looking for a medal for doing it, i'm just doing it.

I'm guessing the reason BlackAdder posted that is because there is SOOO much negativity in this damn forum, so many critics talking SHIT. Of course you have a right to dislike Prince's music...I don't like some of Prince's music...but so many posters on this forum are just so completely fucking clueless and idiotic....For example, suggesting that Prince needs to work with "Musiq" (what a fucking joke) or that he needs a life coach??? Are you people for real? I mean how many idiotic threads get started every day about Prince has lost it...if you feel that way then get lost, what the hell are you wasting your time on prince.org for if you don't dig any of his new albums. Again, I'm not saying that Prince's work is beyond criticism...he has released so much music that it's impossible for people to like everything, but there is just so much hating on this board. And the reason I check it out is cuz believe it or not there are some good threads here and there where I do learn stuff about Prince's music and bootlegs and unreleased stuff that I didn't know. It's just a drag to read so many idiotic posts from losers who probably only own 2 or 3 cd's.

very well written, but it's really a waste of time. Some people love 2 hate on Prince. Don't like the music! so what, try something different. Some like 2 rain on his parade and those r the ones that know what Prince needs 2 do with his career in order 2 get back on the charts again

but at least criticism offers some positive feedback, what direction something could go towards, etc. i don't see much of that around here.

Excellent piece on this, on 3121 today. One of the best scenes in PR is his reaction to "hows the family?" Got up, went out and played. Every album gets critiqued. Folx were up in arms about ATWIAD and many others. Theyre still starting threads about TRC, Lovesexy etc. Guess that means hes doing his job.

I think most critics are frustrated wanna-bees, if not at music then at life!

hang on, isn't 'ratatouille' a carton? is this a cartoon critic? are we basing our viewpoint on script writers?
