Gene Simmons mentions Prince in interview

PR.com: Since you seem to be the ultimate entrepreneur, when you started KISS, when you co-founded KISS I should say, was it simply a means to an end for you?

Gene Simmons: It always is and always will be, because rock n' roll is home to people who would otherwise be asking the next person if they'd like some fries with that.

PR.com: Well, that's if you're successful at it…

Gene Simmons: What I meant was that if it wasn't for rock n' roll you'd be at McDonalds because the people who inhabit the world of popular music can't do anything. They have no skills, and we fall into this kind of business that reacts to charisma. We're not the best singers, and we're not the best dancers. Very few people… I mean, Prince is an exception, but … nobody can read or write music. We're all just self-taught and we do what we do, and that's sort of it.

Gene and Paul both have been long time P fans. They both went to see P in concert in New York on his Dirty Mind tour and again, twice, at The Forum on the Purple Rain tour.

Yeah,...I had lost respect for him in the past but after watching him do an interview with Henry Rollins,...I realized this guy knows and has a lot to say about the music industry!

One thing he commented on was that rock musicians have lost their bravado and edge. Everyone wants to pretend that money & women are not an issue. Rappers are the new rock stars who don't hide the fact that they make lots of money, drive nice cars, and have women partying around them day and night! razz

I think he actually was referring to Prince being able to sing and dance. Most 'rockers' can't really sing and sure as hell can't dance.. but Prince can rock with the best of them... out sing most of them... and still dance his little ass off.

in 2004 (Musicology interview) he said he can't read music. This was discussed a while back and he said this in a Aust. Today show.
