Is there a musical style Prince is incapable of?

He did: pop, funk, rock, soul, gospel, jazz, jazz-rock, new age, latin, blues, rock 'n roll, hard rock, rap, hip-hop, r & b, dance, reggae, country (Muppet show biggrin ) , classical.

What is left for Prince to explore?

house/techno/alternative dance is one thing he's done a few times
but i think he's never really been able to pull it off.

last night i was listening to New World in my car, really loud nd
it hit me that this is probably the only tune in this vein he has
done convincingly.

to a lesser extent Strange but True. well, they're all nice but i
still don't like to call it house/techno which is what it tries 2
be.

still, i'm convinced that prince could do that just as good if not
loads better than the people who make that kind of music. the only
problem is he makes those songs using the same keyboards n drumbox
he uses to make songs like "future baby mama" you know.

what i would love is for prince to invest in some new studio gear.
not just digital but also some weird ass analog instruments to mix
into his music.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I'm not sure that i would agree that prince is capable of producing what i would describe as classical music, at least not any with any merit. In fact in a recent interview he said he was going to right a symphony, which made me chuckle.

The only attempts I've heard of prince's 'classical' music are some shitty efforts using korg keyboard, was is a ballet or something he wrote 'karma sutra'?. it was pretty nusery rhyme stuff really. Certainly not thoughtful classical music as such.

Switching style from rock to funk to jazz is one thing, understanding the intricacy's and ranges, not to mention a thorough understanding of scoring for an orchestra is not something i would associate with prince.

In fact, the only slight orchestrated works of princes I have heard were indeed by claire fishcer, whom i believe prince give free reign to.

Prince has done death metal...and it was reportedly perfectly executed.

Yes, that's what I think too. It would be interesting if he would explore more mordern dance / house style in his music. Some of the comtemporary DJs use a lot of "new" sounds and use it in a very creative way. I believe Funk-House is still an open area.

A big band 50s style Prince album is still on my wish list. I do think he has the right voice for it.

I thought Melt with U, and Loose were very close.

And of course the Beautiful Experience remixes where o.k. though I'm not sure who did the mix on those.

Prince is very talented
and I am not saying it
would be beyond his capability
from a talent point of view
but he would need years of training
in the realm of reading notated music
for starters to truly tackle
"classical" music. His style
of playing is not really
suited to what some
might call "serious"
composition.

thumbs up! Agree, agree, agree.

Prince dips his toe in a lot of things, it doesn't mean he is particularly good at them all, he's just proficent enough of a musician to put his own spin on it, as varying as the results are.
