Reflection the only gem. The other stuff I consider listenable...
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

Musicology remains for me the only Prince album which doesnt contain any absolute gems , even after 3 years of absorbing it . I like a few ofthe tracks a lot , but I can't honestly say I adore them , theyre just better than the rest of the album .

Reflection is the only absolute gem on that album. It seems so open and honest, and the live acoustic version on the Tavis Smiley show is priceless.

Only On the Couch for me.

And that's pushing it.

Good thread. Shows how dispensible most of his latest work it.

3121 has better 'classic' potential of course.

My gems that I listen to are:

Musicology, Illusion Coma Pimp and Circumstance, What do U Want Me 2 Do, Marrying Kind-If I Was The Man In Your Life, and ..... Life of the Party.

The others don't have the childlike, energetic, Prince vibe I like and they kind of bore me.

yea I agree with these, and i like Call My Name as well
chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

For me the gems on this disc are:

1) Reflection
2) The Marrying Kind
3) A Million Days
4) Dear Mr. Man

Pretty much the same favs 3 yrs later that initially stood out upon 1st listen.

I'd suggest What Do You Want Me To Do as the best pop song he's written in years. I love the bass and vocals in that track.

And The Marrying Kind and The Man In Your Life make a nice little suite, trite as some of the lyrics are.

Finally, I agree with many in the thread that Reflection is a wonderful song.
No hard feelings.

I listened to this today for the first time in a while. The tracks that still stood out to me were:

If I Was The Man In Ur Life
On The Couch (really an amazing vocal performance on this one)

Life O The Party is still lame...

GOD. I need to hear this album now. It was like...the lifeblood of my gaming nights on MSN. Good Lord. This album just...wow...I can't believe I haven't heard it in so long....

First we have....

Musicology--

This was the song I cleaned my room to. It was the song that started off my mad Yoshi's Island sessions. It was also my Internet surfing music. Having grown up (still growing...what?! razz ) in a house that played James Brown and whatnot; this is like a reminder of that same sound with a modern twist. It's like..."this is what good music sounds like!" That, and...I love when he says "Ahh...get back! move!! get back!! don't touch my stereo! These is my records!!" LOL that sounds so much like my dad... lol Then of course the end part with the radio changing...so funky. That's how I found out about 17 Days!

Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance--

A song that first confused me. lol I kept thinkin' "wtf...why is her nose glowing in the dark? Is it radioactive?" On my stereo, however...this song ROCKED the floor. The bass is amazing. It's just one of those funky songs that makes you wiggle for no reason...HA! The song itself is kinda sad, though. Folks pimpin' other folks for the green...good God!!

A Million Days--

Romantic in one sense, yet sad in another. I spent a lot of time listening to this whilst playing the Sims. It was one of those songs that I found myself singing back then because I didn't have anyone....and...the guy I wanted was always with someone else but telling me how he wanted to be with me. Just...yeah. It made me cry sometimes to hear it. This is one song that I would not be ashamed to sing backup or main in a club. Good times. It's like a ballad for the brokenhearted.

Life O' The Party--

Yet ANOTHA song that had my subwoofers bouncin' across the floor. What can I say, it's a party jam!! I love it for the simple fact that you don't even have to like Prince (but it helps ever so much) to enjoy it. It's the perfect song to dance to.

Call My Name--

OWW!! This was my first Prince Ringtone. This is also one of my favorite slow jams. It is the epitome of everything I feel for the one I love. How sweet it is to hear him call me "Roni" or "Veronica"....and heh...so many things. It's a romantic reflective song that I love to listen to at night.

Cinnamon Girl--

I have both the song and the video on cd. This song really touched me. It's got that rock sound, but it's also got a message....it's speaking out against the bias placed on a certain race after 9/11. Or at any time, because unfortunatley people DO tend to blame folks even if they had nothing to do with it...if they're just part of or look like someone from that bloodline. It's also speaking out against the "God of Confusion" is that a jab at politics, or people in general? Hmm. It's also a positive message. "'Cause we know how this movie's ending..."

What do u want me 2 do--

Crap! I forgot about this one. Well...^^; I guess it was ok. Nothing I really dug, though.

The Marrying Kind--

Classic Prince. It's one of those "Hey man, leave your girl and I got her. I got everything she will evah need..." songs. Yet another song that I suddenly learned to the 9s outta nowhere. It's my personal anthem for all the jerks who did mama wrong and the ONE guy who does her ever so right!!

If eye Was the Man In Ur Life--

A continuation of the previous song? I think so. Many think not. Nevertheless, it's one of my favorite jams. Perhaps Prince being the eye opener for the chica in question? It's a catchy song in the way that hearing it live would drive a fan into deep insanity! Also a song I love to sing in private very loudly...LOL.

On The Couch--

I really didn't feel this one. I may now, because if memory serves me right....it's close to sounding like Satisfied. (or not. poor memory here) I dunno...it just didn't move me.

Dear Mr. Man--

Interesting political song with passion. At the time, I really hated Bush for all he was worth and agreed with this song. Problem was, I got a little tired of politics so..it sort of lost favor with me. I have nothing against it, actually...it's just that it isn't a song I can religiously listen to.

Reflection--

So romantic. So mellow. So perfect for the kissing of the boyfriend.I've seen it used as a tribute piece on youtube. I just feel that it is a lovely song perfect for any time of the year. (I prefer Summer...lol) You can lounge and chat with your lover to this song. You can fall asleep to it...(As I have a million times) It's like a cool musical breeze.

All in all, this is a pretty damn good album....
