Why the hell doesn't Prince want anything on YOUTUBE?

iT'S THE BEST promotion on the net.

I've got introduced to many artists becuase of youtube

WHy the hell make a video and not let people see it?

It's pathetic we can't post links and Prince or his 'people' object to it.

The next thing will be we can buy his music BUT NOT listen

isn't 'guitar' being 'officially' posted on youtube?

anyway, you know how prickly prince is about having his stuff posted on the internet without his permission.

The commercial is on there officially posted by verizon but the whole video or song is not, altho there is one of the full song up there now but sure it will be a matter of time before it is removed.

I've always understood why he was against the site in the first place.
I kinda forget the reason why, though...

4 months ago, I wanted to stay off the site regarding Prince because he's against it and I respected his choices...

well, so much for that respect... after HQ closed down, I had no other choice but to go there for videos & such... mostly live performances & interviews, though.

i have another site where i look at his videos
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

when winmx(p2p) was up and running i had dozens of prince vids, live concerts etc; now i have nothing

I'm not bothered about dl but we should be able to watch vids and live footage from award shows

I guess he figures since he may not be getting paid for it why not just send his attorneys after YouTueb to remove everything with his music on it...

In the case of You Tube, although I agree mostly with the original post, a profit is being made by a party other than Prince and Universal by having their product on there. I think in the days since Napster, we have become desensitized by the idea of "sharing" music. Music is a product like any other, you pay for it and the producer of the product, in turn gets paid. Like it or not, the companies and the federal government consider "sharing", stealing. For the record, it is.

Now, Housequake had the perfect arrangement. No-one was profiting from the work and they agreed to only post items that were not commercially available. In some cases, this would work towards defeating bootleggers as there was no need or desire to purchase their product. Shutting that down...that was just excessive on Prince and Universal's part.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Thank you ....

1. People always want something for nothing. Copyright infringment is a big deal .The technology evolved faster than the industry did but filesharing has destroyed music as we know it .At least most Prince fans will go and buy the CD, but the extended mixes and B-sides are things of the past because releasing music in that format would be just like giving it away.

2. Agreed ,however I think that has more to do with Prince wanting to do things through his own sites verses another site. I wish that he would contract with the ORG or HQ to do some of those things that he wanted to do.

Oh, wait. No he doesn't.

As a guilty downloader, I must say that I wish that it actually hadn't existed because it indeed has ruined the music industry and I feel bad about it, but it is so tempting, especially when you found something rare from an artist. sigh duh sad

Prince fans are more than willing to pay for the videos we like, but he will not release them or give them permission to be used. What was wrong with Housequake.com?

I've gotten too old for his games. I do what I have to do.

He's selfish. Why should we pay for award show performances? Why perform if not to reach as many people as possible?

Many struggling and underground artists put videos up themselves for the fans and potential fans.

lol yeah discovered that too recently!

You know what, if Prince released all the stuff that's on the web officially on his site and charged a few dollars for it, he'd make a killing from the people on here and HQ alone!

If Prince did just that ,how much bullshit flack would he catch from his fanbase ?

"It's too high!"
"It's about the music so it should be free."
"It's not as good as the Wendy and Lisa days."
"This video is not as good as (fill in the blank)."

lol yeah you have a point, but as the old saying goes you can't please all of the people all of the time. But if they put "proper" versions of outtakes or videos up then even the moaniest of orgers can't complain about them charging for it as obviously some work went in to getting it up on the site in the first place wink.

I gave up having an account on Youtube. I had posted maybe about 30 Prince videos on there. Sure I knew it violated their rules, but everyone does it. I ended up having my account deleted twice for "copyright infringement." Meanwhile, there's still plenty of users on there with tons of legit Prince videos and concert footage.

Why'd they keep picking on me?

IMO Prince is far behind the times on this subject.

The exposure that Youtube and Myspace affords far outweighs any missed royalties. Having people sending your shit around the internet results in far more CD and download sales.

He's shooting himself in the tiny booted foot.He will always have his loyal fam base to buy his latest joint but he could have 10 times as big an audience if he would let the viral trend sweep him along.

Even for those of us that are already fams, being able to punch up a vid of a live performance reinforces our admiration of the man and his talent. Hopefully he will wake up to the fact that staying in front of our attention will keep us in the fold with a lot more enthusiasm.

YouTube is one of the official outlets for the "Guitar" video for the V-cast song ID thing, according to the Verizon press release.

Also, I know that Universal Music themselves posted the videos from the 3121 album.

Ironically, Prince was a proponent of Napster. He released "The Work, pt. 1" through them and there was a pretty long essay about the music industry and kind of heralding Napster on the love4oneanother site. Or the early NPGMC, I forget when it was.

He supports or decries this stuff from one week to another depending on his mood and what he's decided to rail against because he's pissed off at somebody different than he was last week.
