I like the melody during the bridge. Actually, I quite like it overall. Could have used a different horn arrangement, IMO.

I agree! I love this song smile
Its good for dancing dancing jig

Definitely! I'm surprised it's so tight musically with it being about "recruiting" religion.

I loved seeing him do it live when I saw him in NY at the Good Morning America
show.

give me a 20 minute version of this song live instead of a boring 8+ mins of a 23 year old song any day.

there have been times when this song has come on my puter and i have had 2 hit repeat, this and 3121 seem like the only songs on the album 2 have a live band feel 2 it. not saying that other tracks on the album don't pop out at me, but there's something about get on the boat that makes me want 2 get on the dance floor and slide across the floor like james brown dancing jig
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

"Get On The Boat" is awesome, one of the best Prince songs!
It may be his best "James Brown" type song and maybe his best Latin song too!
That song is great! And it sounds incredible live!

The song has a great vibe and musically I really enjoy it, but the JW references are lame IMO.

duh he's a JW now and has been 4 about 7 years now..but even still, he has always xpressed a utopia kind of world in his lyrics previously, and get on the boat continues this type of vibe.

and so i'm not confused, where xactly in the lryics of this song is the JW vibe u speak of?

The sounds at the beginning of the opening, title track of 3121 sound like a distorted version of the sounds that close 'Get On The Boat'.

I think 'Get On The Boat' is a great closer. It makes me think of a Noah's ark type ideal where every species is welcome so that we can sail and survive any horrors thrown our way.

It's a good album track. But when I heard it live on the morning show I thought it sounded great! Totally different then on 3121. It sounded so tight! I would love to hear it live!

Whenever I hear him sing "Get on the boat people" I always think "Don't those boat people have a harsh enough life without Prince telling people to get on them?"

Just how my mind works, I guess. I also think the line "We're against hungry children" in Hello sounds funny too. What's he got against hungry children? Bastard smile

I don't think so.
The song is just hit & miss for me. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.

Its only strength really is instrumentals and the fact Prince knows all of these talented musicians and such. It's like a collage of his piano, Maceo's horns and Sheila E's percussion... and Tamar's voice...

And it's also a good way to chill out after the drama in The Dance... song nearly drove me to tears yesterday and "Get on the Boat" is the exact opposite... not to mention its good driving music.

yeah, lately I've had the hardest time getting into the album itself... because you can't really get lost in it like Prince's earlier stuff... and that's a quality I like to see in his work cuz nobody else has done that when I listen to their stuff.

I was playing it on my stereo instead of my headphones and while singing along to it, his emotions just became contagious.
It took me a couple of listens to figure out what it was about and once I got it, it's always been one of the highlights of the album.

i can get lost in his recent material..try taking an open mind approach 2 his music and try not 2 compare it 2 his earlist work.

Stop baiting me MF and listen to the lyrics and then read up on the JW's beliefs.

again ..what's u'r problem with JW's or would u have preferred that he turned 2 buddahism, hindu, orthodow jew? in other words stop u'r hating MF. I've read the lyrics and they don't bother me at all. I'm asking u simply what is u'r beef with the lyrics period? better yet, just stop being a prince fan cause he belives in the JW faith and u'll b better off and won't have 2 b subjected 2 someone's religious faith since it disturbs u so much.

actually, I have tried to do that. It's just hard to deny that it has a different feel to it.
I've gotten lost in the album a couple of songs at a time.
But overall, 3121 doesn't excite me all that much with a few exceptional gems here and there
