It is kinda amazing that Prince went on national televsion in the eighties and preformed on SNL with "Electric Chair". That is one of the best Prince songs imo and sounds kinda odd and different. You just wouldn't expect him to play something that rare. Even if he was trying to promote "Batman" and EC is off the album..I would have expected him to play something more popular at the time like "Batdance" or "Partyman" but the fact that he chose Electric Chair makes me LUV HIM!

Oh and did you see what he was wearing? That gold lame shirt was awesome!

One of Prince's best tv performances ever in my opinion! It's nothing short of a crime that it's only been played live once!Perfect blend of funk and rock!

i remember a bunch of us watched it in college. we got together to watch the whole SNL special (which was actually very funny), but after prince played i remember we were all just floored. it was soooo good, and we were already all revved up from laughing so much (plus we were in college so we were probably drunk too lol ) - it was good stuff. probably my favorite tv performance of his.

Jaw dropping performance.
I wish that he would have released Electric Chair as a single around that time because he would have had another top 10 hit easy.

Check out the intro when Levi and Miko doing the Hustle and Prince falls in line without missing a step.

Priceless.

When I hear this song I think of Lenny Kravitz. I think his whole "sound" is just like this song.

I dug it. I like the song "Electric Chair". Very "Superstious" by Stevie Wonder. As far as the performance, yeah, I liked that too. Although I couldn't fuck with that gold top he was wearing. Yikes! Although I dug it that he was playing his axe, at times, I wasn't really crazy about the tone he was using. But more than anything, he looked really comfortable and relaxed. Something that P doesn't usually show when he's on television. At least, back then. I have this on tape. I like it too that SNL had Jerry Hall, Mick's ole lady, to introduce P. Very fitting.

if you combine Zep's Trampled Under Foot with that Stevie song, you get this performance.

I like the song but I at the time I thought the performance was a letdown after seeing him tear it up at the MTV music awards with SOTT/Play in the Sunshine just a few years before.

Looking at it now, the whole thing looks more like 1981 than 1989 and is kinda cool.
