Prince's version of "I Can't Make You Love Me" Anyone else who agrees with me when I'm saying that Prince's version is simply the best, the most beautiful and touching one. It's even better than the original, imo.

Bonnie's version is a classic. One of my all-time favorite songs. Prince's version is fucking horrible. He slaughtered it. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

Prince's version is ok until he adds his sex verse, that totally ruined it! That song is supposed to be a heartfelt, sad song. It's not about bangin' boots.
Bonnie's version still remains THE best.

Bonnie's version still remains THE best. So true. When he says "Just hold me close between your thighs," I cringe. Why ruin it like that?

Bonnie's version makes me cry. It sounds like it comes from that deep part of the heart. I was "going thru something" a while back, and it came on the radio. I actually had to pull over because I got so emotional.
Prince's? Not so much. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Love both versions ... my fave part in Prince's version, when he croons .. "I want u 2 love me (love me) I want u 2 kiss me yeaaaaah" The only LOVE there is, IS the LOVE WE MAKE ~ Prince

Bonnie's version still remains THE best. I agree... he doesn't really seem to understand the mood of the song, IMHO. I much prefer the original, or the George Michael version. If Prince had done it with a nice jazzy real-band feel, more like TRC-era stuff, I think it could have been amazing. But the production just sounds so dated and phony to me.

A jazz version of it can be found on a Candy Dulfer record merf

That´s my favorite version..you mean that MTV Unplugged version, right ? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

George Michael's version is the best...especially his UNPLUGGED version....Prince's addition of 'between your legs'' just makes it sounds smutty, not sexy

1) Prince
2) George Michael 3) Bonnie Raitt

I really like it except for a few things. The "between your thighs" COMPLETELY ruined the mood for me...here I am getting all teary and the next minute I'm going . If I wanted that I'd listen to Insatiable.
There's also a bit where he sings "lay down my heart, yeah I'll feel the power" where he really..croaks...the words and it sounds really painful on his voice. Otherwise, I love it. The beginning where the music cuts out just as he sings the first line is beautiful as is the start of the second verse. I'll close my eyes Then I won't see The love you don't feel When you're holding me

Beautiful, But Bonnie's is the best.

I hate that song whoever does it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I agree. Prince version is the best. God doesn't just tells me how much he "LOVE's" me, God shows me how much he "LOVE's" me. Both telling and showing "LOVE" means to "LOVE". They go hand in hand. You can't have one with out the other. Something is spoken, then followed by an action. That is

Prince's version should've been called "I can't make you make love to me"...
I love the singing, the instrumentation (I really love those plastic synth sounds he uses a lot on NPS and Emancipation) and the production but I don't like the end. It ruins the mood and message of the song completely. I've tried to understand his reasons for putting it in the song because I don't believe he doesn't get the message but I still haven't figured it out....

I have the GM and P versions and at first I preferred the Prince version, but recently when I was in a situation where I wished I could make someone love me, the version I listened to and that made me emotional was the George Michael version. I have to agree that the 'between your thighs' line kinda changes the mood of the song.

I haven't heard George's version but I obviously need to take a listen to it.

Yes, I agree. Prince's version is very good, but Bonnie's is fantastic. George's is good too, but his would be my third choice. [Edited 6/8/07 8:37am]
