Prince in High-Def!!!

Warner to Rock Blu-ray, HD DVD with 'Purple Rain,' 'Out for Justice'

Tags: Disc Announcements, Warner (all tags)

Warner Home Video has officially announced catalog faves 'Purple Rain' and 'Out for Justice' will both Blu-ray and HD DVD this July.

Though a rather bizarre pairing of rock legend Prince and action-meister Steven Seagal, Warner says both titles will debut on July 24.

The Blu-ray and HD DVD versions of each will feature identical specs and extras, including 1080p/VC-1 transfers and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround tracks (at 640kbps).

Mirroring its standard-def DVD counterpart, 'Out for Justice' will include only the film's theatrical trailer, while 'Purple Rain' will be packed with three retrospective featurettes, eight music videos and classic MTV coverage of the movie's 1984 premiere party.

Warner has set a list price of $28.99 apiece.

We've added 'Purple Rain' and 'Out for Justice' to our Blu-ray Release Schedule and HD DVD Release Schedule, under July 24. Watch for box art to be unveiled in the coming days.

Basically you're getting 8 videos & hi-def in addition to what they've already released on the 20th anniversary disc. I'm going to pass on another PR unless they decide to release the original X rated version. razz

Well, there's no mystery on what you're getting. If Warner does a good job on the HD transfer that shit is going to look incredible! I'm definitely upgrading

The audio work they did on the 20th anniversary disc made me sick. And I don't suppose they intend to fix it any time soon...

Very cool. I still don't know which 1080p format/player I'm going with yet. Hat's off to Warner's for releasing it in both formats.

The porn industry(seriously) will be deciding which format will become the standard by the end of this year, as they did with VHS/Beta. I guess that I can wait it out a few more months.

My instinct tells me that HD-DVD will be the surprise, underdog winner of the format war.

I doubt that. Porn is free nowadays, so it doesn't have quite the pull it did in the 80s. NY Times has an article today about how the porn business is way down due to the Internet. No one wants to buy what they can get for free.

Porn is as free as Hollywood movies. It's only if you know how to get the bootleg stuff downloaded, otherwise online movies cost money, porn or otherwise.

Not even close to being the same thing. I'm talking about porn clips. Anyone can get those--it's much harder to get full movies and more complicated, not that I have such problems.
