is there 'authorised' footage of purple rain concert live?

There is no "authorized" purple rain live concert. That would be a bootleg. It's ok to discuss. NO asking where can I get/how can I get of bootlegs.

As stated on a banner at the top of the Prince forum:

I used to have this on Video and the quality of the footage was excellent and it seemed like an authorised release.

I had the purple rain live concert on video also...and it looked pretty much authorized...great concert by the way....

it's out of print, but warner music released "prince and the revolution live" in '85, from a syracuse show.

you can probably find it on ebay or gemm.com, but likely only on vhs.

it's totally legit, though, yup. i wish they'd reissue it on DVD one of these days...

Yes, there was an official Purple Rain Live video released back in 1985.
It was just called "Prince and the Revolution Live!". The track list was...

It was only ever released on video, originally as a double cassette set, then
later all on one video. So if you see a copy on DVD, it's a bootleg/pirate.

The Purple Rain Special Edition DVD also contains the promo videos for "I Would Die 4 U - Baby I'm A Star" and "Take Me With U" which were taken from live concerts (different to the Revolution Live VHS versions).

I have it on laserdisc too. I love it, even though my friends mock me a lot for having a laserdisc player hooked up.

I was seriously tempted to buy a laserdisc just because there are a few official releases - such as Lovesexy Live which are available on Laserdisc but not DVD. You should be proud

Yeah, I am a little proud of it. Prince Live, the Gett Off videos, Billboards, and Latina Familia are just a few of the reasons I pray my laserdisc player never breaks down.

tHANKS GUYS, I thought there was cos I used to have it on tape from when it was broadcasted in Australia. Now the tape is so old id like to buy a new copy!!!!!

It's entertaining to watch this official VHS, I have it, but I fear it does not catch ,,the moment" it's so dark and the production quality is bad. I wish I was there...must be totally different experience...btw...so much of Prince's footage on the screen looks too dark!

I remember that split thing being broadcast on Super Channel. I remember thinking at the time that song sounds good/familiar.
My dad recorded GAA over half this and half of my lovesexy dortmund videos cos I never labeled my videos.
