prince speeding up songs when playing them live what are everyone's feelings about this? originally, in my prince-fan infancy, i was a bit pissed off by it...i always thought housequake sounded too frenetic when played live (such as on the sott dvd, my first exposure to a live version of it). however, now i rarely listen to the studio version of housequake because i've listened to the sott soundtrack version (and other live versions) so much the original sounds like it's been slowed down. the same for many other songs, like play in the sunshine or the everlasting now (especially the latter...i love the live on leno version, have listened to it a million times, and now the original sounds very very slow to me). anyway, what was my point again? oh yeah....stay outta my booze! | |

It has a lot to do with keeping the audience's energy up. I like the way he sped up Musicology when he played it live. Also if u go to a club, u will notice the dj speeds up songs there too. | |

Computer Blue, I Could Never Take The Place Of Ur Man are guilty f being sped up. but i dont really mind cuz it makes it sound more awesome  | |

When he did The Glamorous Life at the NAACP in 05 it was sped up and I think benefited from that. |

One word: Fury.
The SNL version of that song rawked. Made the album version sound positively anemic by comparison. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |

True -- I believe I read Alan Leeds saying something about this, especially during the Lovesexy tour -- listen to all those fast melodies -- it was all orchestrated like a rave party or something -- getting the audience worked up and on an emotional high | |

At the 31st concert in Vegas he sang Purple Rain faster and he didn't seem to play it all the way through. Personally I LOVE that song and was very excited when he first started playing it. It didn't have the "feeling" to it. | |
