Someone please tell me which Prince songs are not cool to like

Seriously.

I've stated on threads that - merciful Minerva - I don't like "Anna Stesia!" People reacted to this like I insulted their mother. Well, if you mother's nams is Anna Stesia, I am truly sorry.

Then, I had the nerve to say I liked "Pheromone" on another thread, and again got my head ripped off for that. Maybe I was talking about the chemical. You never know.

I know that you all hate "Jughead" and "Tick Tick Bang," but those are easy...and yeah, I dig the Batman sdtk, but I love "Adore," so I'm not totally off the mark.

So I figured we could use this thread to clarify, once and for all, which songs it is totally not cool to like. Apparently, there's a fam heirarchy that I'm not aware of. I'm being a little sarcastic here, but still, I'm sure everyone had an opinion...

But I really don't like the second LP. I could, however, listen to "D.M.S.R." amd "Let's Pretend We're Married" all day long. Uncool? Please help!

You should never ask a question like this. You are entitled to like any and all songs regardless of whether others think the songs are cool or not. Make up your own mind and don't let others influence you at all when it comes to the music that moves you.

That is not uncool..leme tell ya. Those who recopgnize the greatness of 1999 are of the elite. The Prince Illumionati if you will. You dont want to be one of those boyos who discovered Prince music way the fuck after the rain fell stating stuff like "Damn U, Gold etc is the best songs eva" now do you? I'll always have the backs of the Prince triumverate lovers.

lol

Reading the recent "worst of..." threads has cracked me up. Our tastes are sooo varied when it comes to what we like and don't like...

It seems we are to not like any tracks from New Power Soul. Songs like Courtin Time, Orgasm, Solo, The Arms of Orion, The Wedding Feast and the 1999 remasters are also very uncool to like.

Whatevs, I love Tic Tic Bang and 90% of the Batman soundtrack. I hate The Ladder and 3 Chains of Gold...

just be careful bashing Anna Stesia or anything off LoveSexy or Sign O The Times...that'll get your Prince pass revoked! wink

Surely ther's no such thing as "cool". I can't understand anyone who don't like Anna Stesia but yet I like Arms of Orion which has gotten 2 B like saying U like Celion Dion!!
Anyway, if U like a particular song/album, who cares what someone else thinks?

Oh, I get it...this is the '80s vs. '90s thing, right? Like, "Oh, I live and die by the Mountains 12" mix on vinyl, but TMGITW can take a crap." That? Trying to be super old school, even when you're a 16-yr old high school student (which I am not)?

It isnt that cut and dried..it has to do with brain chemistry. I'll explain later.

rdhull, what is good and what is bad is a personal choice. I absolutely love the Symbol cd and yet many here think it sucks. I understand your point, but you should understand mine too. What you like and what I like can be different and that doesn't mean what you like sucks or vice/versa. Let the fan make his/her own choice and to what music they like.

See, that's what I'm trying to avoid, the f-bomb. I'm searching for peace and harmony on the org, and if that means keeping my mouth shut when someone asks who listens to "Cloreen Baconskin" in its entirety and enjoys the whole damn thing, then so be it. I live to please!

Cloreen Baconskin is a great song and yes I do listen to it all the way through. I appreciate the humour because I've got a sense of humour. I also love "movie star". Hilarious song, yet many here hate it.

Well a little passed on knowledge of whats good and bad from those in the know is not a bad way to make up ones mind and a way to have a decent enjoyable listening experience.

I think that before Prince even begins to start thinking about which of the songs he wrote and brought to us he might play on the upcoming tour, he should ask you your wise opinion. He should ask you your views on his new songs. You can say "nah, man thats shit" and save him the trouble of doing things you won't like.
What he needs are people in the know...

Thats right--just like he has listened to org and amp and played Something In The Water and Empty Room and Whole Lotta Love and All The Critics at the celebration. You think he hasnt seen us all harping on these songs for the last 4 years? Sam reads it..Prince reads it. And he played them for us because it was a "member" celebration so he catered to what the fans who are "in the know" wanted. Point fucking blank. Look up in google at how many times Whole Lotta Love was mentioned in amp

Mr7

Its cool to like whatever. If the interest and enthusiasm is genuine thats cool for you. Whats uncool is to publicly like/dislike according to the general concensus.

Besides, prince.org is not exactly a 'barometer of opinion' if such things do exist. It is a great place, but represents only a fraction of Prince's fan-base.

Be yourself and like what you like. No reasonable person would ever dislike you for that and those that do aren't worth knowing.

rd, you are way 2 stressed. I am forever grateful for members who have brought the songs that you mentioned to Prince's attention. For me, each one is a classic. However, if i like Jughead ( I Don't) then its OK for me 2 like it. If I like that song more than Anna Stesia than my tastes aren't worse than yours, they are just different. This is the basic law of music. 2 B a Prince fan is 2 champion all kinds of music, not to spout on that U're opinions mean more than anyone else's.
If Prince is indeed reading this thread than he will agree with me - not U on this. Music is an opinion, not a fact

1. I am not stressed. I could do this all day. Im a Prince-ologist just like Luke is a self professed Pussy-ologist. If I seem brash or curt its because thats how I write. It is not an indication of my physiology of my automomic or sympathetic nervous system etc.

2. I wrote half of this as a joke..sayiing that one must learn the opinions of others to know whats good.If you seen some of my collection or knew oem of my public embarassing likes ( Neil Diamond, Manilow) youd know Im a champion of liking whatever the fuck u like and tell those who dont like it to kiss your ass- manifesto. But I decided t have some onery "what I thought was obvious" fun and ran with it although sprinkling some actual truths inside of it.

3.Mommies alright, daddies alright..they just seema little weird.
