Giving Prince a Lifetime achievement award- a true story

So.... anywhoo if anyone is interested I am a wedding cake designer and did a search of Prince cakes to get some ideas. I came across a lady who had posted in a Cakecentral.com thread that she had met Prince. Piquing my curiosity I sent her a private message and got this in response:
This was about exactly 6 years ago (2001). During college here in Atlanta, I started helping out with this college radio convention every year where various colleges come here to network and attend seminars about college radio, broadcasting, the music industry, etc. I helped with coordinating, registration and hosting and got to meet so many people.

So that year, the people who organized this said they invited Prince to come and receive a "Lifetime Achievement Award". Nobody was sure if he'd show but we were surely hoping. Some of his folks from the online New Power Generation Club came to some of the events, signing people up and selling some of his stuff. Another sign that he'd show was the fact that there was all of a sudden a "Hit and Run" concerts for that whole weekend. (who else can decide to come to a city and have sold out concerts on short notice?)

So the Awards ceremony was on the last evening of the convention where some of the college radio stations are honored. We were preparing for him and I was asked to be the one to take the award up to him when he was announced. I was so NERVOUS but beyond excited at the same time and just hoping he'd show. We got word that his limo arrived and what I heard later on is that he almost did not come in. He is SUCH a diva and wanted to see any and all brochures/programs with his name or picture in it to see if he approved. There was something he wasn't too happy about but was told that his team approved it. (d.i.v.a.) He was to come in through the kitchen of the hotel we were in to avoid people, no autographs, photography or conversation.

So in he came - all 5'0" of him! lol It happened so fast and I swear I floated up to him with his award. Smiling like a cheshire cat the whole time. He had some sort of heels/platforms on his shoes and I was still a bit taller than him (I'm 5'3"). lol It was an exciting highlight of my life that I will never forget. He thanked me, thanked everyone and spoke about music and owning your own music for about 5 minutes or so and left as quick as he came to go perform at the first concert that weekend.

That's my Prince story.

Badass if you ask me!
