Prince Petition

I am seeking all true music lovers that are in myspace to help support a petition to present my favorite artist with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is an icon to many, but to me his music has been my life's theme music. He's touched me through his music countless times not to mention what he's done for music in general and I feel like this would be a small gesture to show our appreciation. With your help of course....

The attached link goes directly to the petition. I thank you for your support 4ever more. Pass this bulletin on to everyone who loves real music...

I don't want Prince to have a gold star on the walk of fame. It's tacky, self-promotional nonsense.

Besides, you won't get one for him, you have to have an agreement in place with the artist that they will show up for the ceremony, oh, and ten grand or something to pay for it all.

It continues to amaze me how fans seem to fall into two distinct camps on this- either they really love the idea, or really hate the idea. confused Especially considering how the subject is brought up often enough to land this topic in the FAQ's of this site.

I support a fan based effort, it makes sense at this point in his career. I also think there is maybe a 50% chance he'd be intrigued by an effort that actually picked up some steam. If not, so what- at least the gesture was made.

Signed.

Prince at one time stated that he did NOT want a Gold star, I too think it is mostly for Old washed up hollywood people and plus the artists have to put their own money to it. I can't see him posing for a picture and going thru that crap, Prince does not need that to validate who he is. NO THANKS!

But I was alittle dissapointed. I enjoy reading the comments of the many petitions on petitiononline.com. Why did you not want the names to be visible?
I suggest that every one who signs it should place there comment here.
I'll start.

My comment: "You mean he doesn't aready have one?"

Signed...even though IMO this is not good enough for Prince. He shouldn't be lumped in among mere "Dirt" wannabes. Sure, there are folks on that walk that deserve their star, but do you really want Prince's star next to Kermit the Frog's, Dear Abbey's, Big Bird's, Briney Spear's, Vanna White's, or Bob Barker's?

Sheesh....I think he deserves his head next to Abe's, George's, Thomas', and Theo's. headbang

I thought he already had one too...He's the sun of stars to me. I hope he does this or allows his supporters to do it for him. He knows he's loved, but this momento will be a permanent reminder to us all...

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

On one hand, Prince would certainly wince at the thought of the idolatry.

On the other hand, Prince has gone cheese-o-rama with his string of Vegas self-indulgence productions. So a Walk-Of-Fame star might be fitting after all.

On another hand, he did write "Baby I'm A Star", and meant every word - has anything changed in that respect?.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Good points.
Well, the way I see it, if there was ever a time he might actually accept this from his fans (I don't think he'd ever take it from elsewhere or buy his own)- now would be it. He has no doubt been courting Hollywood recently more than ever.
Due to the lateness of the "honor"- (he should have taken it the first time around, imo)- I feel like it's a now or never proposition. And I'm cool with his decision either way- I just get a bit annoyed over the negativity amongst fans that stunts a real effort on our part from being launched.

Signed... I should say, in response to other fans that say he wouldn't want it, or that he would "wince at the thought of idolatry", I doubt that he has maintained his fame and status in the music industry simply by making great music. It takes a ton of publicity work to keep your name "out there", consistently for decades. He did accept the Rockn 'roll Hall of Fame after all, and no one that fears of being mistaken for an idolater would include a massive version of his symbol/name when performing in front of thousands (or 93 million... i.e. superbowl)

I don't think you can compare this to the RRHOF (that's a way bigger honor and no one has to pay for it), but I agree with the rest.
The symbol is plastered all over Vegas as well.
