are you suggesting Prince didn't have any white fans prior to the break thru success of LRC from 1999, or are you speaking of sheer numbers of them? Sheer numbers. It's no secret that after LRC broke on MTV, a larger percentage of whites were at his concerts during the 1999 tour. I KNOW he had white fans before the 1999 album because out here in L.A on the Controversy tour, there were some white folks there. Not nearly as many that was at the 2 shows out here on his 1999 tour. On his Purple Rain tour out here, I went 4 times on that tour and each time, easily it was 70% white in the crowds. It was a HUGE shift from the Controversy tour which was easily 75% black. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

 Hell nah they didn't get it. They didn't get any of the new material p was playing. I've had the VHS tape of First Ave for years. There's these two white cats that are right up front, dead center. These two look like they kinda want to catch P after the show and whoop his ass. They definately didn't act like fans. They probably went out of curiousity and when they got there and seen P in the flesh and hearing and seeing all of these white girls screaming at P, ...they looked uncomfortable to say the least. "I Wanna Be Your Lover" was played on pop radio during the disco era (disco was played on both R&B and pop stations). White people had exposure to Prince with that song but most of them did not remember him afterwards. The only white people I knew of that even knew who Prince was during the "Dirty Mind" and "Controversy" era were the cool motherfuckers that listened exclusively to R&B radio, watched "Soul Train" every weekend, partied in black nighclubs, skating rinks, etc., and dated black people. The extended version ROCKS!!!!! I liked Huey Lewis! But NOT "Power of Love". Huey was a great bar band and I did like his voice. You're right though Power of Love had no soul. My favorite song of his is "I Hope You Love Me Like You Say" with the Tower of Power horns.. I bet Prince likes that one. ______________________________________________
