ELectric Intercourse Hello Orgers
Can someone please describe what the studio version of this song sounds like? I've heard a 2min live snippet on youtube but it was quickly removed. Someone please describe the beauty of this song's sonic quality. I've read the lyrics and they are so erotic. He translates physical yearning so well in song, it's almost scary. I have felt this way many times, sexual pining is so divine and this song sums it up so i need to know what this sounds like. Orgers please describe the sound in your detailed words. I have never heard a "studio" version. There is what I believe to be a rehearsal version -- it's different from the 8/3/83 concert, but retains a "live" quality. (You can hear him cueing the band, for example.)
I'm not sure there's an actual studio version of this song -- hope someone can fill you in. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yeah, not every song Prince has done is circulating as a studio bootleg! There are several songs he's performed live that no one has heard the studio version if it even exists. I mean, for example I don't think there's a studio Prince-performed version of Father's Song from Purple Rain.

This is one of my favorite "rehersal" songs by Prince. I love it because it is very raw and sensual. Prince is the king for writing words that hit you just right when your in the mood. The lyrics are great and is a good comparison to the impulses of electricity you feel when your making love. But what sold me on it was the melody strong baseline..it gets you to feel the "electricity" in the intercourse. I use to wish that Prince would do a studio version of this song but after a couple of years of hearing it raw I don't believe a studio version would do the justice to the song that the live one does. Hope this helps! U want to know the secreat of love and happiness? Love GOD with all your heart, mind soul and strength. And love your neighboor as yourself.

There are, as far as I know, three circulating 'rehearsal' versions of the song and the live version from First Avenue.
Two of the three outtake versions appear to be Prince teaching or rehearsing an early take on the song. The first of these is sung in falsetto register. The second version continues straight out of the first, and Prince kicks it off with 'We'd like to do a thing right now ... fantasy" before starting by singing in a lower register. The third outtake version has the 'Wake up, Wendy!' call in it. It is reported that Prince took the live recording from First Avenue and worked on it further in LA. I have never come across this latter version as a circulating recording. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. The words of this song puts me in the mood to have the utmost "sexual courage" as him. To walk up to that sexually charged man and let him know his potency and what it's doing to me. Nobody conveys this kind of feeling better than Prince [Edited 3/14/07 12:17pm]

The first two versions appeared on: Purple Rush (Volume 1) Disc 5 (Rehearsal 1983) 5. Electric Intercourse - Take 1 6. Electric Intercourse - Take 2 The same rehearsal (but apparently with superior quality / more complete) then featured on the subsequent volume together with the First Avenue rehearsal: Purple Rush - The Second Coming (Volume 2) Disc 2 (Rehearsal 1983) 11. Electric Intercourse #1 12. Electric Intercourse #2 Disc 3 (Rehearsal for First Avenue performance 1983) 8. Electric Intercourse I hope that helps. . I have heard one version where he is telling Wendy to "Wake UP!"
The studio version sounds like something similar to something that would have been cut for the 1999 album. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

I think it's been established there isn't a circulating studio version, only recordings of live rehearsals and performances. I read in Uptown's The Vault that he took a live recording to LA, using it as a base and worked on it further, but that studio/live version isn't circulating.
