Sounds unlikely.

An album of rock covers is unlikely, too, but maybe more likely, since he hasn't only been covering the Beatles, but Jimi, Foos, Chuck Berry & even a tiny bit of Queen.

Prince's run at the Rio may be brief one.

Alicia Jacobs, entertainment reporter at KVBC-TV, Channel 3, reported on Sunday that Prince will end his Rio deal on March 31.

Jacobs said Prince, who took over the Club Rio showroom in November, is going on tour to promote his latest CD.
However, most revealing, perhaps, was the group of uber entertainment executives who attended a private Prince performance that began about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, after his main show at his 3121 club.

Among a group of 30 guests in a small backroom were ABC entertainment honcho David Saltz, Apple Records boss Jonathan Clyde, X, who produced most of Usher's major hits, and Siegfried and Roy's longtime manager Bernie Yuman.

Saltz is reportedly working on huge Beatles-related Prince project.

Prince spent most of the private concert singing arrangements of Beatles songs.

Connect the dots.

A 3121 rep said the show is indefinite and "there's not a confirmed end date as of yet."

Just speculating:
If you 'connect the dots' with the thread from giovanni777 about a new prince album called 'revolution' it would mean an album with beatles covers ( since there is a beatles song called 'revolution' )
hmmm

your opinions please , just some stupid speculating or ...

no opinions on that just yet.....just I hope he announces his tour soon biggrin

While a Prince/ Beatles covers album sounds a strange (if interesting) idea, I'd rather it be say, an EP or internet release. I'm not sure what to make of this, as many of the Beatles lyrics would sound peculiar/ out of 'character' being sung by Prince, partly because they're so British. I mean, hearing Prince singing about 'holes in Blackburn, Lancashire' ('A Day in the Life') would have comedy value I suppose. smile They have very little crossover in lyrical style imo.

If Prince were to do a covers album, I'd prefer if he did an album covering classic 1920-1940s pop/ jazz standards, with maybe one old-time blues track. It would be all be done 'live in the studio', with an acoustic jazz quartet backing, and him playing a little guitar here and there. Or maybe covering these sorts of songs in a sensuous acoustic blues style, similar to the great modern jazz singer Cassandra Wilson.

He already did a Beatles album. It was called
"Around the World in a Day"?

Seriouly, I liked Around the World & if he did a album of Beatle covers it would take away the magic that ATWIAD has.
I'd like to hear new Music with the Revolution. Wendy, Lisa, are you listening? Take a break from that T.V. show. he,he.

IF this rumor is true (which I doubt), I'm afraid it's a project that's bound to go wrong...

Of course, the music of The Beatles isn't and shouldn't be considered "untouchable", more than any other music. And I'm actually quite sure that Prince would be able to add something personal and meaningful in his interpretations.

The problem is that most people wouldn't be ready for it. Most people would want to hear the Beatle songs just like they have always sounded (the same way they want to hear Prince, or any other artist). Anything else will inevitably be judged only by its degree of similarity to the original...

But even if Prince should make a record that sounded exactly like the Beatles, people would still complain that it's not original enough...

So there's really no way he can win... Too bad!

I was just going to say that...or actually, I've said it before.

I would like to hear Prince make an album of Duke Ellington songs! And just sing, not play any instruments, with a group of real jazz musicians (meaning that none of his current or previous band members would qualify...with the possible exception of Eric Leeds)

I hope if he does it he would really get in the spirit make deep rock, and not just do cheesy funk versions of Beatles classics.

maybe the 'private aftershow' was just for a high profile tribute album that he wanted to be part of, who knows?

I also want to say that the Beatles have been covered BAJILLIONS of times! I read somewhere that "Yesterday" is the most covered song in the world. I don't think people would have a cow if yet another musician covered the Beatles. Paul McCartney is a Prince fan, so it would be cool to hear what his reaction would be. The opinions of the Beatles themselves are what matter the most, imo.

god i hope its just a tribute album but the revolution title makes me think otherwise or maybe it was just confused that hes covering revolution for a cover album but to throw away all this publicity on a beatles cover album would be a horrible career move

Whenever I do karoke,
I always "sing" Hey Jude.
Near the end, when I start to get the audience to participate with the "Na na na nananahhhh" part , I bust out into the crotch dance that Prince did at the end of I would Die 4 U.
By the time I'm done,
you can usually cut the feeling of awkwardness in the air with a knife.

Bad Ju Ju.

I'm not sure even being the genius that he is that he can pull this off. The Beetles are an uber huge band, and any remakes of their music, espeically by a polarizing artist like Prince (why is it you either love or hate it???), places al WHOLE MESS of pressure on Prince.

I think Prince cando their songs better thant hey can, personally. Prince has a musical, vocal, and emotional range that dwarfs anything the beetles did as a band, or by themselves. But, it will automatically be met with hostility by alot of folks.

If Prince were to do an album of more obscure song, but respect musical acts and song writers, that would go off much better. I'd love to hear him redo Vic Chestnut's "Supernatural" or even something by Sufjan Stevens.

This is so sad for me to say, but I think Prince's recent efforts have been so lacking in "umph" that I'd actually love to hear him do covers of other songs. Maybe this will help him find his Muse.

I LOVE the Beatles the best as far as music alone, but Prince is a force in his own right. Did he go see "Love" in Vegas?

ne

I've got mixed emotions on the topic.

On one hand...I love Beatles music and we all saw what Prince did with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"...this could be a good thing if the right songs are included and the whole thing's done properly.

On the other hand...I don't want any damn covers!! I want some new hard hitting Prince music!

Alas...whatever it ends up being...me and my credit card will await it's arrival! I'm such a fucking Prince junkie! headlp

yep, none of this makes sense to me
glad to know i'm not the only one
Prince didn't live his whole life making his own music
to do something like this

I did,

I went to see a doctor when I came back home,
and he told me that what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas.

yeah I think the beatles are pretty open to covers--especially since they won't let their recordings be used in movies, TV, or commercials!

They must be among the most covered artists of all times

That could be either really bad or really great.

It would be cool if he did "Abbey Road" or "Revolver" - entire albums.

I think you're closer than it being a CD of covers. Prince supposedly took his band to see Love and when I saw it, I was wishing they'd do something similar for Prince.

I happen to really like the Billboards program and LOVED the NPGDC show. It's cool to hear his music and watch others interpret it artistically. Plus, you aren't so distracted trying to watch his each and every move, so you 'hear' the music a little more. wink

i just interpreted it as the sigfried & roy guy could have been a prospective contact for a producer and the apple records guy could have been a consultant, and prince was rockin' the beatles tunes out of respect/enthusiasm for the "love" show, and the whole deal was about a prince-themed production to be staged in vegas while he's on tour, so that the 3121 club could continue to bring in audiences (and money for prince).

doing an all-beatles cover album just is NOT prince's style.

then again, if you'd told me even two years ago that he'd be doing a residency in vegas, i woulda sworn THAT wasn't his style either. lol
