His keyboard solo in 2 Nigs United 4 West Compton is one of my favourites of all time.

As for his piano work, I rate it the same as his drumming - maybe not technically amazing, but he's worked out a really nice style that just, well, works!

The only aspect of his musicianship I don't like much is his recent guitar work. His early stuff is much more rhythm-based and very funky, whereas his playing in the mid 80s was a very distinctly "Prince" sound (like Alexa de Paris). Now, however, he just sounds like a poor man's Santana - and I really don't like Santana! And leave the whammy bar alone, already!

Thanks for your input. I'll have to check out that solo. (I don't have the Black Album yet. Shame on me.)

The production on it has been a big influence on me, especially (when you get hold of a copy) Rock Hard In A Funky Place.
