That would suck. Prince is such an amazing live performer that most of the other artists in the business would just drag him down if they joined him.

What is "TMZ?"

beer

TMZ = thirty-mile zone = hollywood
they have a strange way of getting their "news"

seeing Prince's rep for showcasing other black musicians
i'd be quite surprised to see him give up part of the spotlight to joel
the only validity i could see in this is if it was at renato's request

Billy Joel is a tremendous piano player and singer.

I don't think Prince can teach Billy anything about piano, just like Billy can't teach Prince that much about guitar, drums, and bass.

Both are great, professional musicians.

It'd be great to hear a collaboration.

Well, the reason I say it, is because I can't stand Billy Joel, I find his music boring. He might be a good piano player, but I don't like his voice or songs.

I don't think it would be a good matchup since the halftime show is all about energy and some guy sitting at a piano, probably drunk, wouldn't be very entertaining. The only fun I'd have watching it would be hoping he'd fall off his bench.

Accoriding to TMZ...

Billy Joel will perform the national anthem at the Super Bowl in Miami on Feb. 4, and will join Prince in the halftime show. He's the first performer to sing the national anthem twice -- he did it in 1989.

Thoughts? A duel piano battle?

What's he joining Prince on-stage for?
Jeeezz we don't need his crap.

LOL... Billy plays guitar. He's doesn't play it much, and rarely in public, but he plays.

Also, Billy is a great composer. He's got a tremendous grasp of music theory. So even if he can't play the guitar or bass or drums at all, he can still translate what he knows on piano to any instrument.

The piano (and keyboard) is called the king of instruments. On it, you can duplicate or approximate the sound of almost every other instrument. If you ever hear Billy Joel break down the structure of an "ordinary" pop song, you will understand how deep his understanding of music is.

Billy Joel also has an increasingly extensive background with classical music.

So, umm, yeah, he might be able to share ideas with Steve Vai and Jaco and Buddy Rich if they were all alive, even if he couldn't duplicate their technique on their respective instruments.

Having said all that, Prince is still da bomb.

This would only be interesting if they are doing "It's Still Rockin' Roll To Me". Other than that I don't see them doing a duet of anyting together.

According to the offical Super Bowl website, Billy Joel is doing the National Anthem, not Beyonce. I think it's wishful thinking by her fans that she'll have anything to do with the SB.

You have obviously never seen Billy Joel live - one of the top three most exciting live performers in the world in my opinion (Prince being number one, with KISS and Billy Joel a close second and third)

Let's be clear...

#1) There is no way that Prince is going to share his half-time stage with a Billy Joel. That is just too corny and doesn't even make since. He's too much of a pimp for that. Maybe when he's 70 for some type of oldies gig when they're both getting lifetime achievement awards. Until then, nah...

And, #2, let's not be confused, Billy Joel would hand Prince his ass on the piano. He is an extraordinary piano player. Remember, it is his primary instrument and he is a great musician. Let's not get so crazy that we start thinking that Prince can beat everybody out in every instrument at any time. Only place where this is true is on the guitar, as was previously mentioned.
Come here, babe.. yeah...
