Prince – A cross border (India-Pakistan) Friendship story

www.orkut.com is a networking site run by the google guys. I live in India in a city called Chandigarh in the northern parts and I had always wondered if there were any other diehard Prince fams in India so I hooked on to orkut and checked out the ‘Prince’ group. I’m otherwise not an avid visitor to such websites.

Well, more than India, I found some genuine fams from Pakistan, and with one of whom (Mr Nabeel Amin) I got in touch through orkut. We shared some Princely notes. One day (Nov 2006) my parents got an invitation from the Government of Pakistan for a friendly Golf tournament in the city of Lahore in Pakistan. Mr Amin gave me his telephone number (it ends with 3121 !!) so my parents could get in touch with him.

Though the schedule was very tight, my parents got in touch with him and the love and generosity they got in return is something our entire family would cherish forever. Our friend not only took out time from his hectic work routine for my parents but also took them around to famous areas around the city besides inviting them for meals. The thoughtful gifts from his family sent for me and my wife have left us spellbound. I have travelled all around the world but such love and affection has to be experienced to be believed. I had never met him personally and had only exchanged emails with him and now it seems as if I have known him and his family since ages.

I wanted to share this story with the orgers just as an example as to how truly music knows no boundaries, no borders, no states. India and Pakistan have had their ups and downs but the people share one common thread since after all, both the nations were one prior to 15th August 1947. And this also goes to show that generosity and magnanimity is still live and kicking today in this materialistic world.

Thank you brother for taking such good care of my parents and thank you Prince for making this possible.

What a nice story! cool
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I however don't think there are many Indian or Pak fans who visit this site. I can count them on my fingers. As compared to India though, Pak has more fans, even the music scene is bigger there as far as bands are concerned.

Hi ! I've been in Chandigarh 5 years ago, nice place! I've been in Pakistan the same year & people were very kind there, too.
Actually most Indians & Paks i talked with of the tensions between both nations were very sorry of it & really considered the "other" nation as the same as theirs, & the "other" people as baing part of the same people so i guess the problem actually comes from both governments, not from people 'emselves.
In Jaisalmer, my walkman broke so i gave my Prince tape (a copy of the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 live DVD) 2 an Indian guy i had met. He didn't know Prince & said he liked it. Possibly, 5 years later, someone is still listening 2 this tape somewhere in Rhajastan...

I'm deeply in love with ur country & culture, Armybrat, & i'm glad there r Prince fans in india!
