we all know prince don't have the greatest voice on earth.
but he knows how to use his voice.
he sings perfect especialy these days(2002 one nite alone live)
but does he sings off key sometimes.

i think he sang a lot off key on purple rain tour.

if you know please give the examples of his off key singing.

Might as well add my 2 cents worth,

I dont have to listen to the 85 Live gig again because i know what you are saying is technically correct during LRC and others, and as Blackguitarist pointed out there were many other factors involved.

I just believe that Overall, it is such a minor and indeed obvious point to bring up from a concert, like 20 odd years ago, when by your own admission, his other variations of intonation and screams etc to embellish the performance produce some glorious moments.

Also, We all know when Prince is not as his best vocally, He gets the crowd to sing the notes instead, its not Rocket Science. wink

I've never personally heard him sing off key.

I have, however, heard him play his guitar out of tune.

Brutal.

I don't care too much for the falsetto. But if you can name someone who can sing better, as a musician I ask you to name him

*** Jo Sopala, Franco Battiato, George Michael, Freddy Mercury, the Opera singers....

Everybody has his own style so its not a matter of who sings better or worse... Prince is a good singer and I like his style..

That's it. P. has a certain style and in that style he can't be touched.
george michael is a good singe, But he couldn't cover a prince song well.
"Opera singers" what just any opera singers?. some are bad at there jobs, some aren't

How do u know that George Michael cant cover a Prince song well? George Michael is a Tenor and Prince a Bass.... I doubt that G. Michael would have difficults sings certain low notes... I think that Prince could cover his songs but with some difficults (not considering the falsetto, it solves this "problem").

I didnt talk about all Opera singers in general. I heard a Soprano in "the magic flute" of Mozart that wrong hitting a very high note....

There r some singers that despite their singing off key r cool. Roger Waters of Pink Floyd r always off key but in my opinion he's the best of the band.

Please dont take 2 personal what I said. Im not cricticing Prince... He's good in my opinion...

Occasionally, yes. Some of his harmonies seem a bit different, at times, too.

Still, great singers have been known to lose pitch. Daryl Coley, a singer's singer, often falls flat.

But, I'd still love to sing as well as that man probably sneezes.

Sure, Prince has pretty good intonation, but so has hundreds of other singers, really.

What sets him apart, in my opinion, is his ability to improvise and ad-lib his vocal lines - not only for expressive purposes, but sometimes simply out of necessity. When he's not able to hit a high note, or about to run out of breath or something, he'll know the second before, and he'll change the melody or the phrasing so that we won't notice.

Of course, there are other singers who do that too, but with the possible exception of Ray Charles, noone does it as cleverly as Prince. And he really does it all the time, you just don't think about it!

***** Its what is being taugh in conservatory: the ability of change melody if u notice that u r hitting a wrong note, or u cant reach the highest one.... During the time it gets AUTOMATIC

I can't remember the exact performance but I remember is was a few years ago at one of those awards ceremonies or something like that. Um...actually, don't remember when/where it was now that I really try to remember it. I just remember my brother and I wincing when we heard it.

Sorry, I don't have every performance and it's details memorized. I know I taped it though, I can try and find it on one of my billion prince tapes.
