To get back on topic, I don't have any friends; thus, I cannot reply more fully as it pertains to my experience.

Honestly can't think of one friend that doesn't like him or that has said anything negative about him. Many don't follow what he's doing, but that's not their fault. It's not all that easy to do.

Well, for someone reason it's very hard to get people from my age into Prince and his music, though I think it's not very difficult music to get into. And also his appereance scares most of them off. Some of my friends like Musicology and 3121 though. But when I let them hear something from Parade or Lovesexy they look at me like I´m crazy.

Most of my friends hate all but one or two songs of his [most like 'Kiss']. They all think he's weird, gay or a paedophile.
My boyfriend, however, quite likes him =)
