Justin Timberlake Disses Prince In New Song? You be the judge:
The Internet has been most abuzz about Timberlake's verse, though, with gossip sites speculating that his harsh words are aimed at Janet Jackson: "I saw you tryin' to act cute on TV, 'Just let me clear the air'/ We missed you on the charts last week/ Damn, that's right, you wasn't there/ Now if sexy never left, then why is everybody on my sh--?/ Don't hate on me just because you didn't come up with it." A source close to the record said that Timberlake's lyrics have nothing to do with his infamous Super Bowl co-star — but he is responding to another pop artist who has seen career heights few other singers can boast. http://www.mtv.com/news/?...land.jhtml

Well we assume Prince was just making light hearted humor towards Timberlake. Maybe Timberlake is doing the same.
I mean, Prince did say that with regards to Timberlake to begin with. I think Timberlake has made mention of his respect for Prince, so I dont' see this as nothing but light hearted humor anyways.

OH SNAP. That's hilarious...
I hope this is true, because then Prince will have to have a comeback.... and his will be awesome I'm sure. This makes me happy, but at the same time I wanna punch JT in the face for the total lack of respect for a legend

My opinion: they don't like each other because they're competing. They're both very sexy and put on incredible shows except ... sorry you all... Prince is getting a little rusty at times and a bit old on the edge too. Although, we'll always love him.

Prince is getting rusty. YEA RIGHT, you must not have attented the Vegas Show. I have nothing against JT but come on now. Prince would mop up the stage with him. Also I don't think that he was referring to Prince.

I really think it all goes back to Timbaland.. I know Prince was not happy with Ginuwine's cover of When Doves Cry.. That was one of Timbo's first hits.. I think he took it personally. And I've heard rumors over the years of Timbaland and Prince having somewhat of a "feud". And once Prince made the "Sexyback" comment, it was a way for Timbaland to get a jab back..
Also remember the "Im gonna put you on the same diet Missy went on!" line from Marrying Kind? Directed toward Missy Elliot... Prince has gotten his share of punches towards Timbalands crew over the years...

First of all, it was Prince who started this with his remark about "Sexy never left.", though his words came across less offensive then JTs lyrics, and keep in mind that Prince also dissed people in his songs before ( like D´Angelo, who´d let that other dude diss Prince in his liner notes for his Voodoo album).
A little bit of friendly competition is always a good thing when it comes to Prince´s music, except for the time when he tried to incorporate some touch of rap to his music and added Tony M´s lyrics to his brilliant songs, like on the Diamonds and Pearls and Symbol album where great songs were marred by Tony´s raps. I still like some of his own raps though. Remember way back in the days Prince had a lot of competitors with different styles in the charts, from Rock to Pop to Funk....the late 70´s to mid 80´s were a great time because of the variety in styles and because of the skills that a lot of people in the business had back then....there aren´t that many people who can really challenge him in any way in todays music world. Now JT is also not really a challenge but people like him, he´s got this sexy image working for him, he´s got good producers etc. so he´s at least a challenge in terms of popularity, "sexiness", mass appeal, nice beats etc. so maybe he might ignite something in Prince. Then again, there are people like Maxwell, D´Angelo, VanHunt, Erykah Badu and so on and they could have inspired him as well by now but I just don´t hear it...not that I don´t like his music anymore , on the contrary, but it is a bit halfhearted and lacks some fire sometimes, especially in the lyrics department but that´s another topic. [Edited 11/16/06 10:41am] " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
