I'm a total Bitch for Purple Rain at The Brits!

sometimes you just think the dude can't any better and then goes and he rips his own song a new asshole.

he made it sound like the epic ballad it shoulda have been. i've seen him do this live but it never lived up simply becuz of the start/stops at the end, over and over. it actually bored me a little bit.

but here he just makes it the sound like the whole world is gonna be engulfed by those six strings.

WAMP!

Hardcore fans seem to have a problem with Prince playing Purple Rain and Let's Go Crazy because he's played them so often in the past, personally I never seem to get bored of these songs they're just so classic and deserve to be played over and over. Purple Rain is the song I'd take with me to a desert island.

Live, he varies the performance of Purple Rain and there's definately been some tours where it was worse than others, especially those where he truncates it right down. I love the whole Brits performance though, musically no one is off-key, the audio is fantastically recorded, and it's lit and filmed really well, nice to see a performance not covered in darkness, and with great close-ups of faces and his guitar playing. He's played PR so many times it's hard for some to believe he's not just going through the motions, but to me he at least acted like he was really feeling it! It was a powerful performance and everybody in the auditorium was on their feet applauding when it finished.

He's done other performances on tv which were great, but they've not always been as well lit and filmed as this one, I've watched it over and over and I'm still not bored with it!

It blew me away the 1st time I saw it and everytime since.

It's possibly his best performance on a TV show.

I think it really helped that he actually sang the "ooooh oooohs" over the solo himself. Must have been the first time in a long, long time. He also has never played the song with the Hohner to my knowledge, the guitar he recorded it with. Maybe that inspired him!

Anyway, love it too.

I love it when people speak as if they KNOW, when infact it's just their lowly opinion.

damn I thought everyone lost their mind.

He did PR at the AMERICAN Music Awards , not Brits. Then I realized it was 2006.
