Leaving for New York

I have had "Leaving For New York" on repeat tonight, and it must've played at least a dozen times so far. It's just such a terrific little track, very relaxing.

Can anyone provide some background to this rare track?

I once heard it is one of the earliest recordings Prince ever made, is that true?

'tis one of the "boombox demos", circa 1976. very nice tune, it's one of my fave bootlegged tracks.

Could this song have related to the time when Prince went to stay with his sister in New York to get into the music biz (or was that New Jersey)?
