I have an interesting incident to relate.
I live in India.
I had sent my wedding card to Prince's address last year,
I did not have his complete address so I simply wrote "Prince and Manuella, Bridle Path, Toronto, Canada",

It came back to me a few months later with many comments and scribbles from the Canadian Post guys.
The first scribble was a big question mark, then some other person with a pencil had commented "Address ?" (if I remember correctly !), then someone had put an arrow mark and written "The singer Prince".
Then there was a comment "Refused by addressee".
SO there you have it, it actually did reach Prince's house (thanks to Canadian Post) but was refused by his staff maybe.
SO I deduct from the incident that he does not encourage direct mail.
I had sent one card at the Paisley Park address too but got no reply though.
I have kept the card unopened somewhere, maybe I should dig it out, maybe it becomes a collector item one day - a letter / card that managed to reach Prince's house

I was told that Prince sold the house in Toronto last year. He supposedly doesn't own a home now, which is why he is renting a house in LA.

Im sure Prince, and most other celebrities get lots of wedding cards, bar mitzvah /wedding invitations, demos of songs, letters from felons, etc. Lots and lots of them. That's why the mail doesn't go to their homes. If it's really important I'm sure Prince would see it. I don't think you can feel bad that Prince uses a mail service in order to protect his privacy. John Lennon was quite open where he lived. Look where it got him.

At the back of my mind I knew it would not reach him, but I thought just in case...,
anyway, maybe I thought a wedding card from India would have been unique to him. No regrets though !!!

If I were a celebrity I´d x-ray every letter before I open it.

Hey my letter was a normal envelope with a very thin card inside, I'm sure the expert mail sorting guys must be knowing it can't contain a bomb ! Their only concern must be bombardment of fan mail

Most celebs (especially musicians) would never open/read fan mail anyway for legal reasons. It's just way more trouble than it's worth, and can sometimes lead to unwanted court cases. It's just safer to refuse mail, so it can be proved that the artist could never have seen the contents.

because if the fan maybe writes them a song lyric or something and then that line later appears in a song by Prince then he could get sued . I'm sure I read once about the Harry Potter author J.K.Rowling , when she did a book signing there were bodyguards there making sure that no-one tried to give her their own works of fiction so that they couldnt later sue her for stealing their original ideas .I'm no legal expert but its something along those lines I'd imagine Boris is referring to .

fan mail is often officially 'refused' so that it can be proved via the post
office that the contents were never seen or read, and therefore the artist
