Were all great albums non of them reach the dizzy heights of 1999, Purple Rain and Sign but for me there up there with the rest of his 1980's output.

Rave I also think is at times excellent and an enjoyable listen but has a couple of lacklustre moments.

Choas and Disorder is fantastic for the first four songs then really dips with Right The Wrong, Zannalee is Ok and I rock therefore I am is great until that rap. It picks up again towards the end.

Emancipation has a few great songs but on the whole is just dull and far too conservative.

I hate the production on the truth and I consider it to be his weakest album.

Crystal Ball shouldn't really count as its a collection of songs rather than a proper album but still its essentail but could have been so much better.

Prince kept me very Satisfied in the 1990's and I never understood the whole Prince was crap in the 1990's thing.

THE GOLD EXPERIENCE BY FAR.
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IN MY TOP 5 OF ALL TIME IF HE HAD:

A) INCLUDED THE EXTENDED VERSION OF `BILLY JACK BITCH`.
B) INCLUDED `ACKNOWLEDGE ME`.
C) INCLUDED THE VERSION OF `NOW` THAT STARTS WITH THE `NOW,NOW,NOW,NOW,NOW`
LAYERED VOCAL CHANT!
D) INCLUDED `THE MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD(MUSTANG MIX)`.
E) LEFT `319` IN THE VAULT.
F) ASKED SABOTAGE RECORDS 2 DESIGN THE ALBUM COVER!!!

I guess that Exodus doesn't count. If it did- that's my favorite '90's album by far. Too, too funky (except "Cherry Cherry").

Other than that, I'd go with Emancipation. The 1st half of Disc 1 and the 2nd half of Disc 2 really hit the spot back in '96.

I'd put Exodus right behind prince and right in front of Come. All 3 are EXCELLENT.

I'm surprised to see so many people mentioning the Symbol album. I always found it bloated and annoying. I mean, really, it's got Tony all over it. Yuck.

Tony M aside, the album really marked one of the last times P experimented musically with a little bit of everything from: James Brown inspired funk (Sexy MF) to glam rock (3 Chains of GOld) to psychadelic gospel/funk (7). Tony M actually was better here than on Diamonds & Pearls.

The story line was a bit retarded, but this is the one album that is essential for me.

Ditto for The Gold Experience.

WHen you talk of bloated, look no further than Emancipation. About 20 songs too long.

Tony's appearance doesn't spoil the album though. This is an album that is filled with top-notch,highly creative songs: "7","The Continental","And God Created Woman","Love 2 The 9s","Damn U",etc.

love symbol has

sexy mf*
love 2 the 9s*
morning papers
7
sacrifice of victor
blue light
my name is prince*

*yes, tony, but these have at least four or so minutes of pure butter before tony comes on

and that, sadly, is enough to make it one of the best prince records of the nineties even when all the other songs suck.

i think the O+> album is great. it totally defines a big moment in his career to me, and there are some classic songs on it. it kind of drops off for me around the end - the last four or five songs have never really done it for me - but there's some genius happening on that album that can't be denied.

i only prefer the "come" album because it feels more condensed, like there's less segues and nonsense and more getting down to business.

I think that Prince integrates the rap elements on this album in an excellent way. "Love 2 the 9s" is a good example - the hip hop middle section, then getting back to the sugary soul that makes the song. Perfect!

Tony doesn't equal "annoying" for me. I think people on here tend to be obsessed with him. He's not that bad.

prince is a brilliant record imo - so many styles, and excellent songwriting. I think it's one of the best Prince albums ever. It made me a hardcore fan.
