I know the word "hypnotic" is overused, but it truly applies here. At first, I didn't think much of the beat due to the sound quality, but I reckon now that its unflappable steadiness is what makes everything else so insidiously.... good!

OK...

So I have the version from "Crystal Ball 2"... It's old school bootleg... tape hiss and stuff.

My question is, who is talking at the end, when U hear, "edit piece... some funky horn pockets, and synth bass... and like, some, U know, kickin' percussion parts and things..." ??? That cannot be Prince.

How many versions exist?

G.

heard that also...not sure. Kinda disapointed in the song itself wasn't as funky as I thought it would be although it good. Vintage Prince 86-87 sound

As great as a vocal impressionist as Prince is, that CAN'T be him.

Remember the stoner on Emancipation's "Style"... That's Prince. Mind blowing how he can characterize.

When I first heard the title of this song, I was so hoping it was a tribute song by Prince about his own ass. When I heard it, I was disappointed as it was not so.

Yeah... That's what I'm sayin'... As great as he is at changing his voice, there's no way that's him on "Wonderful Ass". On "Style", U can tell the stoner is him.

Yes, you are absolutely right. That's Prince in the guise of "Azifwecare" biggrin

"Stone" is a misnomer, as the actual title of this track is "Nothing Left 2 Give".

It's one of the songs Prince recorded after reworking some demos that Sandra St. Victor (formerly of The Family Stand) had given him with a view to working together in the studio on some new material.

This song was part of a batch of songs recorded around the time of the Emancipation sessions. There was a recent thread regarding Emanciptation-era outtakes, so look it up.

That is the gotdamn song right there! The first time I heard this song, I fell in love with it and played it 10 times in a row that night! I love this song to death.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Outtakes section.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Creepy..

I was reading this thread and listening to my entire Prince library on random shuffle..

And Wonderful Ass came on. It took me a second to realize that I was listening to Wonderful Ass while reading about it.

Creepy fact number two: The recently circulated studio demo of "Wonderful Ass" from '83 appears to be the main source for the extended unreleased version.

The drum pattern is the same.
