Prince & Bonnie Raitt

Ok I know they recorded some songs together back in the early 90's and they were locked up in The Vault, and never to be released; but does anyone else feel a HEAVY Prince vibe on Bonnie's new album? When I first listened to it I was convinced Prince had something to do with the track "Deep Water". But after recently giving the album a few more listens, I'm convinced his influence is on quite a few other tracks as well: "God was in the water" etc. The lyrics of this album seem to be much more open, personal, and spiritual, than on her albums in the past. I'm not trying to take anything away from Ms. Raitt; but this album feels like someone who's been hanging out with Prince listening to Lovesexy.

well didn't prince cover "Let's Give em Somethin to talk about" live? And "I Can't Make U Love Me" on Emancipation...

Prince and Raitt planned a whole album project, but then parted ways over creative differences and egos according to rumor.

Throughout her career, Raitt remained a committed activist, playing hundreds of benefit concerts and working tirelessly on behalf of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. By the early '80s, however, her own career was in trouble — 1982's Green Light, while greeted with the usual good reviews, again failed to break her to a wide audience, and while beginning work on the follow-up, Warners unceremoniously dropped her. By this time, Raitt was also battling drug and alcohol problems as well; she worked on a few tracks with Prince, but their schedules never aligned and the material went unreleased. Instead, she finally released the patchwork Nine Lives in 1986

n late 1987 she joined k.d. lang and Jennifer Warnes as female background vocals for Roy Orbison's television special, Roy Orbison and Friends, A Black and White Night. By now, Raitt was clean and sober, having broken her substance abuse — for which she would credit Stevie Ray Vaughan in a Minnesota State Fair concert[1] the night after Vaughan's 1990 death. Following this highly acclaimed broadcast, she began working on new material. During this time, Raitt considered signing with Prince's own label, Paisley Park, but negotiations would ultimately fall through.

A friend of mine got me into her music, went to her concert last fall. The new album sounds a little Prince influenced, moreover, the way she performs, holds the crowds attention, and even moves suprisingly reminds me alot of Prince.

Check out Bonnie Raitt's song "I Feel the Same" on itunes. It's pretty funky blues song, with some good acoustic playing.

Didn't she credit Prince as the reason she got clean and healthy? I remember reading somewhere that she was at home, overweight and addicted to drugs, in pretty bad shape, and saw Prince on TV. She said something along the lines of "look at this kid, skinny and sexy as hell, with all this energy, jumping all over the stage." She wanted that, and decided right then and there to change her ways. I think this was in the mid-80s.
