What does Prince owe you?

I asked this at the Club and I'm asking it here as well.

with the announcement of the Las Vegas show at 312 bucks, a lot of people seem to thinking that once again, Prince is either ripping off his fans, overcharging them, gonna lose part of his fanbase, etc. Some also seem to think that he is appealing to a certain segment of his fanbase, i.e., the uppercrust or richer ones. I am by no means wealthy but I intend to treat myself and head out to Vegas.

As Prince fans, what do you think Prince owes us?

He owes me a normal teenage. I could have had done all kinds of social things instead of confining myself inside my room and listening to his records all the goddamn time.

Just kidding...the man has provided me entertainment for 20 years. Sure there have been times where I questioned his sanity (or mine for liking him) but he doesn't owe me a thing.

Prince owes me nothing.

I am just baffled at the response to the ticket price. Folks have gone out the box, acting like Prince has to run his business decisons by his fan. Yeah, right. All the b!tching and whining is out of control. It is not that deep and not that serious.

I think some might have a nervous breakdown over this. eek

I don't think he owes me anything but I am concerned about him losing fans. I think he needs to add fans let alone keep the ones he has. It would be nice to see him still be somewhat affordable for everyone to see so that they can understand where we have been coming from when it comes to P. In the end Prince is going to do what he wants to do because he always does. I'll still be here for the ride.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Oh boy those fans that think Prince owes them something really annoy me. Prince has given us alot of music, lots of tours, lots of entertainment, he's really shared alot...way more than alot of other artists have. Even if his ticket sale is high...so what...you can choose to go or choose not to...if he wants to charge hundreds for his ticket price he can do that because he is Prince and has just reached that level of respect as an artist. Think of stuff like how he gives reduces ticket prices for NPG club members, gives them prefered seating at shows, reduced prices for downloads...I mean come on!...he's given us alot and even if he didn't an artist doesn't owe us anything. You have the choice to give him your money or not.

Besides Prince does have alot of rich fans...Las Vegas is pretty close to California...plus it's hip to really like Prince now...so I'm sure he'll have alot of hoighty toighty types partying it up in Vegas with him.

I understand what you are saying, but the Las Vegas gig is not the tour. It's just a one-off event on a holiday weekend.

I think a lot of fans are just selfish. They only think about themselves and what Prince should do for them. "Prince shouldn't be a JW because it influenced him to not sing sexually-charged lyrics that I like so much." "Prince shouldn't charge $312.01 for tickets because he knows I can't afford it." WTH!

Well, just maybe this is a special event for Prince. A treat for himself. A chance to charge top rate for being the best live performer alive. I thought we all knew he was the best live performer alive. Yeah, some know he is but think he should always charge cut-rate prices for his shows.

Let me point out again...it's only 2 shows, not a tour.

Well, since you ask:

A similar show could be used over here...on the east coast. Preferably NYC.

nod Totally. And for the record I think we all know Prince is worth 321.00 dollars for a live show. He really just is that spectaular. I can't think of too many other musicians I feel that way about. But Prince is just THAT good.

Anx

prince doesn't owe me a damn thing. i can't afford to see him in vegas, but i don't hold that against him. even if he charged a dollar a ticket, i still couldn't afford airfare and accommodations. he did this before the musicology tour - he played australia and hong kong and charged lots of money for tix...i just think it's a thing he does when he's ready to give a sneak peek of his upcoming tour. if he prices all the shows on his next tour this high, then i'm done with seeing the man. i don't think he will, though.

but what does he OWE me? nothing. every time i've paid for something prince-related, i got the product i expected. i'd say we're pretty much flush.

What does Prince owe me? One Nite Alone - Piano Demos Part II, and erm, the Dream Factory, Crystal Ball pt 2... The original 14-or-so minute version of Computer Blue in perfect quality.

I think then, given the enormous help I've been to him over his career, we could call it even. wink

Nothing really.

This may be the start of the tour and may or may not cost that much when he tours. Madonna charges and arm and a leg...why shouldn't Prince? Not sure if I'd spend that kind of cash to go see him. Probably not. So I miss this tour.

No Biggie. I've seen him what..5 times...no 6 times now. I'm good. It'll be a shame if I can't go, but oh well. If that's the way he wants to go, fine by me.
